Bid $39, counter offered $49 and because of pressing time (tonight) and 1 rebid I accepted.

Should I have rebid @ 43/45? Or would this have led to a non-winning bid.

You can usually undercut the counter-offer, but whether it will take $1 more than your previous bid, or $1 less than the counter-offer, or someplace in between, is unknown. If you didn't have any additional re-bid zones accepting the counter-offer was a good idea, as i wouldn't worry about a potential $5 left on the table when you're getting a 3* hotel for under $50/nite. ;)
