pb8 Posted August 13, 2012 Report Posted August 13, 2012 hiI will be in NY from 5 to 17 Oct (12 nights) and am looking to staying around midtown east. I am looking to spend around $200 per night.any help on how to bid on priceline would be good!
pb8 Posted August 13, 2012 Author Report Posted August 13, 2012 Happy to go to MTW, Central Park South, Empire State or Madison Sq Garden as well!
AaronJB Posted August 14, 2012 Report Posted August 14, 2012 What would be your desired star rating? Additionally, given the length of the stay, you may have better success splitting the stay - would that be acceptable?Thank you for using the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
pb8 Posted August 14, 2012 Author Report Posted August 14, 2012 Would prefer 3* or up. Don't know if we want to split te stay as we haven't figured out where we want to go in NY and may do some trips to Washington so would like a base in NY. Would this cause a problem?Just in general, it's pretty hard to get a Priceline "bargain" for such a long stay. October is an expensive month for New York too. Thanks for your help
thereuare Posted August 15, 2012 Report Posted August 15, 2012 ...may do some trips to Washington so would like a base in NY.Would these be day trips to Washington DC or would you be spending the nite(s) in the DC area? If the latter, would you keep the NYC hotel over this time period (and have it sit empty with your belongings)? I also don't understand what your DC trip(s) would have to do with your SPLITTING YOUR PRICELINE BID or not.Just in general, it's pretty hard to get a Priceline "bargain" for such a long stay.It can be harder to get a good deal. During a slow period it's not as much of an issue, but during high demand times it can be, as per the following example:Nites 1-10: hotel rates of $150Nite 11: hotel is sold-out or very high occupancy and doesn't offer any 'opaque' inventory to PRICELINENites 12-15: hotel rates of $150Even at a reasonable bid (for NYC) of $150 this hotel isn't a possible option since PRICELINE does not have inventory for your complete stay... the one nite of no inventory completely eliminates this hotel has an option. During low season there is a better likelihood that a hotel will give PRICELINE / HOTWIRE inventory for the complete date range, but during high season there are more instances when a hotel may have high occupancy and not give any inventory to the opaque suppliers. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. pb8 Posted August 15, 2012 Author Report Posted August 15, 2012 Thanks very much for this. We were planning to leave some of luggage in the hotel room in NY if we go up to Washington. So would it be easier to bid for 10 nights, then 2 nights? Thanks again! I am really new to this bidding thing! HOTWIRE is easy compared with PRICELINE!
thereuare Posted August 15, 2012 Report Posted August 15, 2012 The 10 nite stay would still likely be difficult as the hotel would need to have offered deeply discounted inventory to PRICELINE for the entire 10 nites. However, the ultimate deciding factor would be rates for the actual dates you're booking... if rates for all dates are low except for the last nite, then the 10 nite stay won't be an issue, but the 2 nite stay would be.I would first figure out if you want to go to DC or not, and if there is nothing in particular you need to be in the area for on specific dates, i would then begin to compare what the best travel dates likely are in terms of DC having low rates for those dates and NYC having high rates for those dates... this way you visit DC when rates are low and get out of NYC when rates are high (in an ideal world). Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.
