Our first visit to Hawaii and will be in Oahu 10/8 to 10/10 and big island from 10/10 to 10/14. Budget for both places is 150$ before fees. Would like to stay in wakiki area in oahu, will I be able to get 4* or better? Also why are resorts separate, are they at a higher pice point than 5* hotels?

Also need suggestions for best area to stay on big island. Plan to go volcano hiking there.

Thanks for the help in advance.

Please use separate threads for each leg of your trip. We will use this thread the Waikiki part of your trip, feel free to start a NEW TOPIC for the Big Island leg of your trip.

In the star rating hierarchy, 'Resorts' should be thought of as 4.5*... higher rated than 4* hotels but lower rated than 5* hotels.

For Oahu, which waikiki zones are you willing to accept? (you can view the zones by entering 'Waikiki' and your dates in the search box on the top right of this page)

I'm looking for a nice hotel where you are either right next to, or like a block walk from the beach, from the map I am guessing I am looking at 'diamond head area' ,'wakiki beach area' and 'wakiki marina area'.

Thank you for input

The highest star rating available in the Diamond Head zone is 3.5*, so this wouldn't be an option if you're trying to stick with 4* and higher rated properties.

I'd also avoid the Marina zone as it's not directly on the beach and is more than one block away... it's certainly a do-able walk, but if you're need to be as close to the beach as you imply, then it's not going to give you the proximity that you're looking for.

If you really need/want to be that close to the beach, i'd suggest sticking with the Waikiki Beach zone.. but at the moment i think you're going to need to be closer to $165-$185 to be successful here at a 4* or above.

Let us know your thoughts and how you'd like to proceed and we'll advise accordingly.
