bkbrown24 Posted August 11, 2012 Report Posted August 11, 2012 Are TI and Mirage the only 4* on priceiline in the las vegas north area? Where is caesars located and what else is in the area? Safe Rebid zones to use? Sorry for all the questions but i dont want to get stuck with anything off of the strip.
Romelle Posted August 11, 2012 Report Posted August 11, 2012 TI and Mirage are the only Priceline North Strip 4*s reported here by other members. It is always possible for another hotel to show up - change in boundaries, re-rating stars, ?? Caesar's Palace has been reported here as a Hotwire 4.5* and in Hotwire's North strip area (the boundaries of the areas can be, and usually are, different between Hotwire and Priceline. FYI - Hotwire can be a little more generous with stars than Priceline, so the 4.5 of Hotwire may well be a 4* of Priceline. You might look at MAPS and HOTELS.com under Tools above to see exactly where Caesar's Palace is. And then see if that fits within the Priceline Las Vegas North Strip. Also, its address id 3570 Las Vegas Blvd S, Las Vegas, NV.Regarding safe rebid zones, it is really important that you know how to do it yourself, since you need to do it just before any bidding session. Things can change, and if you just use somebody's old list you can get bit. The process for determining the safe zones is described in the FAQs. When you think you've got it, I'd suggest you post your list back here for a double check. Hint - pay particular attention to Summerlin! What dates are you wanting? And have you established a budget? With that information, one of the moderators here could give you a bidding strategy to use.And your questions are all good ones. Romelle

bkbrown24 Posted August 13, 2012 Author Report Posted August 13, 2012 I'm looking to spend 100 a night at the most for one of the 4 star hotels i mentioned...Do you see that possible? I see TI listed for 126 regular on all of the travel websites so I'm thinking I could get lucky with them if not any of the other ones.My rebid plan is to start with:80-4 star north85-4 star las vegas lake, las vegas north90-4 star las vegas lake, las vegas north, las vegas speedway95-4 star las vegas lake, las vegas north, las vegas speedway, Sumerlin100-4 star las vegas lake, las vegas north, las vegas speedway, Sumerlin, Las vegas airportWill this plan put me in danger of getting any hotels im not interested in? Thanks for the help in advance!
AaronJB Posted August 13, 2012 Report Posted August 13, 2012 Summerlin is not a rebid zone (keep in mind the resort level is higher than 4* and you could get upgraded), nor is Lake Las Vegas, nor is Las Vegas Airport. From the "re-bid" thread: Re-bidding explained: "If your bid is rejected, you can often add a zone that does NOT offer that star level or higher (ie- add a zone that ONLY offers lower star ratings) and bid once again, raising your bid by a slight amount. An example follows:Assume city XYZ has an uptown and downtown zone. You bid 4* uptown at $50 and are turned down, and are told you can bid again if you change something. IF downtown ONLY offers 3* Hotels and BELOW, you can add the downtown zone (so you are now bidding on downtown AND uptown) and once again bid for 4*. This will allow you to raise your bid and try again, essentially only bidding uptown, since downtown doesn't have any hotels that fit your star level criteria."Additionally, there are a number of additional re-bid zones beyond Las Vegas Speedway in this case. Please list them here before trying re-bidding and we can help confirm.Thank you for using the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
bkbrown24 Posted August 13, 2012 Author Report Posted August 13, 2012 Alright Thanks for your help! So the rebid zones would be las vegas speedway, boulder strip, las vegas north, las vegas vicinity north, and las Vegas Vincinity South?
Romelle Posted August 13, 2012 Report Posted August 13, 2012 Nope. Sorry. You've missed some of the safe rebid zones with your list, and included some that are not safe. For determining rebid zones, you have to do it while actually on the Priceline web site, as if you were about to bid.I'll give you one example - the airport. In the blue Priceline box top right hand corner, enter your dates and Las Vegas. When you are taken to Priceline, click on only the airport zone. You will see some of the various star level buttons below change color from gray to white. The white ones can be selected for bidding since there actually is at least one hotel available at that star level. The 4* button will be among the white ones. So - if you were to use the airport for a free rebid zone, you actually could get a hotel at the airport. After you work through this, then try to find the zones that do not have 4* or higher. You have to do them one at a time, and click one off before you click the next one on. You'll see that Summerlin doesn't have 4* availability, but it does have Resort way at the bottom of the list. And Resort acts like a 4.5*. So if you use Summerlin, you could be upgraded to it. It is necessary to be able to figure out the free rebid zones on your own, since you need to do it each time before a bidding session. And that is because things change, and a free rebid zone today won't necessarily be one tomorrow. For the record, you are in good company in wrestling with this concept. It is not intuitively obvious. RomellePS - what dates are you bidding?
thereuare Posted August 13, 2012 Report Posted August 13, 2012 You can try this approach in addition to those that Romelle included above:Start with the following...1) Use the PRICELINE search box on the upper right of this page, enter 'Las Vegas, NV' and your dates, and click "GO".2) List each zone that is offered in this region. 3) Next to each zone list the highest star rating offered in the zone. The way to determine the highest star rating offered in the zone is by selecting the first zone i the list, then scrolling down to see the highest star rating selectable (ie- not greyed out). NEXT UNcheck the selected zone, place a checkmark in the next zone, and repeat the process for each zone in the region. Each time you take note of the highest star rating in the zone, make sure that only ONE zone is selected above.4) post your findings and we'll take it from thereIf you don't follow the above just post back and we'll break it down further. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. bkbrown24 Posted August 13, 2012 Author Report Posted August 13, 2012 Thank you to both of you that are helping me, without you in would of been stuck with a hotel on lake las vegas! Haha but i think I understand it after the explanation and the 4 Star rebid zones I found were Boulder Strip, henderson, NW Las vegas, and Las vegas Speedway. So I guess my rebid plan would go like this:4 star North strip- 804 Star North strip, Henderson- 854 star North strip, henderson, Boulder-904 Star North Strip, Henderson, Boulder, NW Las Vegas-954 star North strip, henderson, Boulder, Nw Las vegas, Las Vegas Speedway-100Do either of you now which 4 star is considered in the North vicinity? Also if i added 5 star to the 4 star would i be able to bid 4 more times? thanks for asll teh help yall are awesome
matthew_holmes01 Posted August 13, 2012 Report Posted August 13, 2012 Keep in mind you will have resort fees in addition to your room rate that you bid. Most places on the strip will have a $20 and up daily resort fee that they collect at check out. Keep this in mind as your budget of $100 per night could easily creep up to $130 + per night with taxes, fees, etc.
Romelle Posted August 13, 2012 Report Posted August 13, 2012 You've got the rebid zones right now. Nice work! But do take a minute and check them before each bidding session. It is surprising how often things change. When you are bidding at a star level, PRICELINE considers that level and all higher ones. So you can't go up to 5* star level to continue bidding. That has already been done. You can though go down in star level. BUT for that to work, you first have to get out of PRICELINE (close your browser or signout) and then link back in again from BetterBidding. If you don't get out first, those free rebid zones stay checked, and they do contain the lower star levels so you could still end up out at that lake.Regarding which 4 star hotels could be in the North vicinity, there is a list of reported hotels in the second post in this area. At the moment, the 5* Trump is the only one there, but ..... boundaries change, star levels change, hotels haven't been reported yet....?? Maybe somebody else here knows??Romelle
thereuare Posted August 14, 2012 Report Posted August 14, 2012 PS - what dates are you bidding????Do either of you now which 4 star is considered in the North vicinity? Also if i added 5 star to the 4 star would i be able to bid 4 more times? thanks for asll teh help yall are awesomeIf you bid from 4* and are rejected, you could then bid an addition ELEVEN times for a 5* hotel, but you have to use your additional re-bid zones and order them correctly. Did you want to try for a 4* first up to $100 then if rejected bid higher for a 5* property... or did you intend to keep your maximum bid at $100? Or are you now considering bidding 5* instead of 4*?Please let us know your dates, maximum bid at each star level, and what you're thinking you want to try for first (5* or 4*) and we'll then be able to comment specifically to your situation. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.
