Hello-

I am looking to bid on a 4* San Francisco SOMA hotel. I'd be happy with just about any of the hotels with the exception of the Palomar. I have been there already and idid not enjoy it and it's not an ideal place to stay for me.

Is there anything I can do to AVOID getting the Palomar?

Any suggestions are greatly appreciated!

My travel dates are a little flexible but are for 10 nights, approx August 12th - August 22, 2012.

Thank you!!

Welcome to Betterbidding.

There is no way to avoid a particular property when bidding. If you bid on a 4* (for example) in a particular area, you have to be willing to accept any 4* within the zone. HOTWIRE - where you can make an educated guess as to what properties are showing based on the information given - is a better choice in this case. Are you seeing any HOTWIRE listings of interest? If so, please provide the complete details of the listing (star rating, zone, price, full set of amenities) and we would be happy to take a look and try to ID.

Thank you for using the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.

Hi and thank you for your help! I took your advice and checked out Hotwire but did not see a listing that interested me. There's very little in the 4 star range and the price is about the same as booking a guaranteed hotel.

That said, I'm thinking of taking a chance and bidding on Priceline for a 4* hotel but for a shorter stay (maybe 4 nights rather than the full 10 nights) so that if I do get the Palomar hotel, I'm not stuck there the entire time and. An find something else for the remaining 6 days. I noticed in the forum that many recent SOMA results were for the Marriott Marquis which would be ideal and superb! If I were to get that hotel, or any other one, do you know if I will get the option to extend my dates to the full 10 days?

Thank you again for any advice you can lend!

...do you know if I will get the option to extend my dates to the full 10 days?

When offered, the Extend Your Stay option only allows you to extend your stay for up to the same number of nites of your original reservation, so if your original reservation is for 4 nites, you can only try to add 4 nites. Therefore, you may want to make your original reservation for 5 nites so that if you are successful you'll have the opportunity to try to extend for the full length of your stay.

HOWEVER, note that even when offered, the extend your stay option doesn't ensure that you'll be able to extend your stay as PRICELINE will come back with one of three responses:

1) you've successfully extended your stay

2) a room is available but only at $xx (and you'll then have the option to extend accept or reject the higher price for the additional nites)

3) no rooms available to extend your stay

Let us know how you'd like to proceed and we'll take it from there.
