Melba_A Posted August 9, 2012 Report Posted August 9, 2012 I've tried bidding $20 and $23 for a full size car from the Oakland airport and was rejected. Then I checked other rental car sites including Priceline's regular non-bidding car reservations. Priceline's regular non-bidding had Avis full size for $170 per week which comes out to $24.29 per day. I took that reservation since it's only $9 more for the week then I just bid. What's up with that? I thought bidding was supposed to be the least expensive way to go.
thereuare Posted August 10, 2012 Report Posted August 10, 2012 If it's a busy time the car agencies may not offer any discounted/opaque rates to PRICELINE and only give them 'retail' rates to sell.Even if just one day of your rental there is no 'opaque' inventory available to PRICELINE, then it doesn't matter how high you bid as there is no inventory to satisfy your complete travel dates. This is why it's important to always check rates (and use tools like our BiddingHelper.com, Car Rental Checker, etc) to make sure you don't overbid. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
