Hotwire Hotel: Edmonton & Banff vacation trip planning & bidding. Help!

I am planning a trip to Edmonton & Banff area for a week on car. Its two family of (two adult) & (Two adult & two children (5 & 8 years old) ), so six people trip from weekend Aug.18-Aug.25 from Winnipeg (Canada) to Alberta (Canada) traveling. Date can be slightly flexible as our vacation goes from Aug.17 after work to Sun Aug.19 night.

I am trying to find a good deal on all aspect of the trip:

Car rental for 7 people (mini-van)? for a week?

Hotel for Edmonton & Banff surrounding area? Any advice how to plan the sequence of locations to visit (First time traveling to Alberta)?

When & how should I start bidding? Bid two rooms separate or together?

Is August 19th the right date here... seems like it should be August 26th (at least)... for your itinerary looks like it should be more than just 2 nites Aug 17-19. What is your desired star rating and budget for this part of your trip?
