Hi,

I used the PRICELINE link to check options for one room in a 5* or 4* Hotel in NYC on Saturday 8/18/2012 for 1 night and identified the following zones: Times Square, Mid town West, Mid Town East, Central Park South, Soho, Madison Sq., Empire state in that order of preference. My budget is $150 ($180 at the most). If I don't get at that price, I am willing to go to 3.5 * or 3 * for a budget of $125 ($150 at the most). Is it possible to get anything in that budget at this time of the year for a Saturday night?

Can you please suggest a bidding strategy? We are also open to other zone suggestions as we are not that familiar with the other zones. Our trip is just to meet up with friends and enjoy a weeekend in the big apple - some attractions, bar, dinner, maybe a show etc. Looking for a lively fun area to be in.

Thanks for your help!

...identified the following zones: Times Square, Mid town West, Mid Town East, Central Park South, Soho, Madison Sq., Empire state in that order of preference.

Are you willing to pay more to stay in your first choice of zone vs. your second choice vs. your third choice, etc, etc... OR is your goal the least expensive 4* or better in any of your acceptable zones?

My budget is $150 ($180 at the most).

For the first round of bidding should you use a $150 or $180 bidding limit? We will start lower and gradually work higher, so if $180 is the limit you don't need to feel that you'd be overbidding since we will start much lower than this.

Thanks for the response! I am sorry my intent was not very clear. My preference is in this order:

1. $150 for 5- 4* any zone listed (and any additional equivalent zone recommended by you)

2. $180 for 5- 4* Times SQ, Mid town West, Mid Town East.

3. $125 for 3.5- 3* any zone listed (and any additional equivalent zone recommended by you)

4. $150 for 3.5- 3* Times SQ, Mid town West, Mid Town East.

Thanks! Please let me know if you have any additional questions.

OK, we'll take it one or two steps at a time...

1. $150 for 5- 4* any zone listed (and any additional equivalent zone recommended by you)

So you're bidding:

Times Square, Mid town West, Mid Town East, Central Park South, Soho, Madison Sq., Empire state

(there are no 4* hotels offered in the MSG zone so we won't include this in a bidding strategy)

When bidding 4* in NYC you have SEVEN re-bid zones. If you're not familiar with re-bidding please read Priceline Re-Bidding Explained and feel free to ask questions and/or confirm your re-bid zones with the board before proceeding.

(NOTE: i only want you to use SIX re-bid zones below... remember the 7th one to use later, but don't use the 7th re-bid zone at all in the bidding cycle below)

Select 4* TS, MTW, MTE, Soho, ESB...

Bid $100, if rejected add re-bid zone...

Bid $105, if rejected add re-bid zone...

Bid $110, if rejected add re-bid zone...

Bid $115, if rejected add re-bid zone...

Bid $120, if rejected add re-bid zone...

Bid $125, if rejected add re-bid zone...

Bid $130, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINE

Select 4* CPS...

Bid $100, if rejected add re-bid zone...

Bid $105, if rejected add re-bid zone...

Bid $110, if rejected add re-bid zone...

Bid $115, if rejected add re-bid zone...

Bid $120, if rejected add re-bid zone...

Bid $125, if rejected add re-bid zone...

Bid $130, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINE

Select 4* TS, MTW, MTE, CPS, Soho, ESB...

Bid $135, if rejected add re-bid zone...

Bid $138, if rejected add re-bid zone...

Bid $140, if rejected add re-bid zone...

Bid $143, if rejected add re-bid zone...

Bid $145, if rejected add re-bid zone...

Bid $148, if rejected add re-bid zone...

Bid $150

If the above is rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINE

2. $180 for 5- 4* Times SQ, Mid town West, Mid Town East.

NOW we will use the 7th re-bid zone from above...

Select 4* TS, MTW, MTE, CPS, Soho, ESB and SEVENTH re-bid zone...

Bid $155, if rejected add re-bid zone...

Bid $158, if rejected add re-bid zone...

Bid $160, if rejected add re-bid zone...

Bid $163, if rejected add re-bid zone...

Bid $165, if rejected add re-bid zone...

Bid $168, if rejected add re-bid zone...

Bid $170

Any questions feel free to ask.

Hi thereuare,

I tried exactly as per the recommended strategy and went all the way to $180 for 4* NYC for the desired zones + the 6 rebid zones and another round using the desired zones & 7th rebid zone + 6 rebid zones, but did not get a room :( It appears that this weekend is pretty heavily booked. We have decided against bidding for 3*- 3.5*. We will just spend the day in NYC and drive back home. I really appreciate your help because if I had tried on my own I would have not been sure I bid with the best possible strategy but now at least I'm sure I did not miss out any opportunity. Thanks for all your time, I just wanted to make sure I gave you the update.
