ronnyber Posted August 8, 2012 Report Posted August 8, 2012 Started at $150. rejected. tried $180 and still no luck. Am I just bidding too soon?
AaronJB Posted August 8, 2012 Report Posted August 8, 2012 Welcome to Betterbidding. :)It's not too early for this period - unfortunately, these are just very busy dates and will require a higher bid, given rates that are showing. What would be your desired budget per night?Thank you for using the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
ronnyber Posted August 8, 2012 Author Report Posted August 8, 2012 I would go as high as $225 but hoping to avoid anything higher than that. One issue is that there are 5 ladies in two rooms so the bed thing is an issue. Would need at least 4 beds total. I know, HOTWIRE is a better option for that. But I want a deal!

ronnyber Posted August 9, 2012 Author Report Posted August 9, 2012 I clicked on the links as requested.I should mention that I am a new poster to this site but have been using PRICELINE (bidding) for many years. Always a day or two before the check in date. This is the first time I have tried this far in advance and the first time for downtown Chicago. Always operated under the theory that I had a better chance to get "unsold rooms" bidding a couple of days out. And it always worked! :)
thereuare Posted August 10, 2012 Report Posted August 10, 2012 One issue is that there are 5 ladies in two rooms... I know, HOTWIRE is a better option for that. But I want a deal!If you use PRICELINE you may get a lower rate, but if you're assigned rooms with only one bed each, is that still a deal?? If you're willing to take the occupancy risk...When bidding 4* in Chicago you have SIX re-bid zones. If you're not familiar with re-bidding please read Priceline Re-Bidding Explained and feel free to ask questions and/or confirm your re-bid zones with the board before proceeding.(NOTE: 're-bid zone1' is not the same as priceline's Zone1, 're-bid zone2' is not the same as priceline's Zone2, etc, etc)Select 4* NMA...Bid $100, if rejected add re-bid zone1...Bid $115, if rejected add re-bid zone2...Bid $125, if rejected add re-bid zone3...Bid $135, if rejected add re-bid zone4...Bid $145Select 4* NMA and re-bid zone5...Bid $155, if rejected add re-bid zone1...Bid $160, if rejected add re-bid zone2...Bid $165, if rejected add re-bid zone3...Bid $170, if rejected add re-bid zone4...Bid $175, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINESelect 4* NMA and re-bid zone6...Bid $180, if rejected add re-bid zone1...Bid $185, if rejected add re-bid zone2...Bid $190, if rejected add re-bid zone3...Bid $195, if rejected add re-bid zone4...Bid $200, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINESelect 4* NMA and re-bid zone5 and re-bid zone6...Bid $205, if rejected add re-bid zone1...Bid $210, if rejected add re-bid zone2...Bid $215, if rejected add re-bid zone3...Bid $220, if rejected add re-bid zone4...Bid $225Any questions feel free to ask. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Good luck and let us know how it goes. But I want a deal!I am going the same weekend and bidding on the same area. No luck on my side either, but I only went up to $150. There are 4 of us so I am trying to make up my mind on the risk of getting a King bed and getting stuck with it.
ronnyber Posted August 10, 2012 Author Report Posted August 10, 2012 I am going the same weekend and bidding on the same area. No luck on my side either, but I only went up to $150. There are 4 of us so I am trying to make up my mind on the risk of getting a King bed and getting stuck with it.I have been scared straight by the bed issue. I'll take the bid rejections as an oman. Booked the Courtyard Chicago Downtown/River North at $349 for one night and $299 the other nights. I King and sofabed. Doesn't appear to be a lot of avails right now and I didn't want to get stuck with nothing. Will keep checking rates every few days
AaronJB Posted August 10, 2012 Report Posted August 10, 2012 The Homewood Suites is $249 on Expedia (one room will be $249, the other $259 because of the third adult) - that is a really nice HS property, plus free breakfast and *much* larger rooms, as well as very nice location. The Homewood rooms are full suites - 1 King in BR, plus sofabed in the living room and kitchen. Really nice Homewood, similar location-wise and a better value than the Courtyard (not that that's not a nice Courtyard, but the Homewood for more than $50 less + free breakfast is a better value, in my opinion.) Do check the refund policy when booking regular rate. When searching for 2 rooms/5 adults on HOTWIRE, I do see what appears to be the Indigo for $209, but free breakfast and the larger rooms at the Homewood may be more appealing for $249.Thank you for using the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE or Expedia links to start your purchases and searches.
ronnyber Posted August 10, 2012 Author Report Posted August 10, 2012 I saw that but didn't book because of some negative reviews involving the sofa beds. That they were not fit for adults, only small children. Thanks
slruud Posted August 10, 2012 Report Posted August 10, 2012 Not sure if this helps, but Lastminutetravel.com has the W Lakeside for your dates for $269/nite, for 2 rooms/5 adults available. Might be even cheaper if you call them. I booked the Sutton Place for $160/nite via their website, and a few days later I called and the rate was $139 for my dates...9/19 - 9/22.If you don't mind taking the L, the Hilton Chicago in the Loop is $195/nite for your dates, also available.
