Hello!

A few friends and I are looking for a nice hotel (3* or above I'd say) in the historic/business districts in Boston (somewhere close to the Freedom Trail) for Saturday September 1st.

I've read a lot of the strategy and other information on the site extensively and also clicked through betterbidding's links to hotwire and priceline to do my searches.

We're hoping to spend as little as possible I guess you could say, but could probably go up to $125 or so if that'll get the job done.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

Welcome to BetterBidding!

A few friends and I are looking for a nice hotel...

To begin, are you looking for more than double occupancy or are you looking for multiple rooms?

PRICELINE only guarantees double occupancy, after that it's at the discretion of the hotel, and you could receive a room with only one bed. While you can call the hotel you win and request a room with two beds, the hotel may not be able, or willing, to honor your request. If this is not a risk you're willing to accept, HOTWIRE may still be an option as they allow you to search for up to quad occupancy and ensure sleeping accommodations for everyone you include in your search (although this usually means two beds, the second 'bed' could be a sofabed, rollaway, etc)

Let us know your thoughts on the above and we'll take it from there.

Thanks for the welcome!

There will be four of us, so we would need two beds. I checked HOTWIRE for that date and the prices for inside of the city seem high to what I've seen wins posted on your site have been recently.

Would it be a good bet to just go with PRICELINE and see what happens?

Rates in Boston have been fairly high for most of the summer and relatively speaking, rates for your nite above are not that high. You're likely seeing higher rates on account of searching for quad occupancy, which can often raise rates, especially in a city location.

Whether you should "see what happens" and use PRICELINE for more than double occupancy has to do with the risk/temperament of your group... there are definitely hotels in Boston where a 'standard' room is only one bed. What would you do if you received a room with only one bed? What is there is an additional charge at check-in for a room with two beds or occupancy more than two? (and at this point you're basically hostage to whatever the hotel wants to charge)
