Priceline Hotel: Frustrated Trying to Bid on BUDGET hotel in SF

Hello,

I'm trying to find a cheap hotel in San Francisco (areas include Fisherman's Wharf, Marina District, Financial District or Union Square) from August 24 to 29. This week seems to be very expensive for hotels - not sure why. My budget is $100 a night MAX including fees - $500 total. I'm willing to stay in a 1 or 2 star hotel. I have been re-bidding for multiple star levels and multiple areas for about 4 days and keep getting rejected.

I do not see any winning bids on here for 1 or 2 star hotels. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hello, I have bid at PRICELINE in the following zones - Fisherman's Wharf, Marina District/Lombard District and Union Square (both zones). I have bid at all star levels. I have bid at varying prices between $65-85 and been rejected at all. My maximum budget is $100 a night including Priceline fees for 5 nights from 8.24 to 8.29. Thanks

While i'm not sure that it will help, have you bid the Financial District as that is included in your original list of acceptable zones but not in the list of zones immediately above that you have already bid.

Using MAPS and HOTELS.com and/or BiddingHelper.com what is the best rate you're able to find at an acceptable hotel in one of these zones?

Is SPLITTING YOUR PRICELINE BID an option?

A big convention is in town during the date range: VMWare 2012 goes from August 28 to August 31 at the Moscone Center. According the SF Convention and Visitor Bureau website, attendance may run to 20,000 people so that may impact availability and rates.

Though, I'm sure the budget hotels aren't necessarily being the first choice hotels being scooped up.

In a number of other cities, airport hotels are a viable option to staying downtown. The sum of lower cost transportation (bus or train) and the airport hotel rate is less than a similar hotel downtown.

I'm really not familiar with San Francisco, but thought I'd mention the idea. You'll have to do your own detail investigating. The Oakland airport has a Hotwire 1* at $48, and there are several others well under $100.

For that matter, maybe some of the other further out areas would work for you. Again, you'll have to carefully check the transportation situation.
