jacana Posted August 2, 2012 Report Posted August 2, 2012 I suspect that there may be some sort of conventions going on during Aug 14 and 16, and the price is ridiculously high. Desirable areas: Boston Harbor Front - AquariumCopley Square - Back BayQuincy Market - Financial DistrictBeacon HillBoston Common - Theater DistrictBudge:$150Tried to bid for 3*, then lowered down to 2* (with one free rebid zone), but got no luck.Any suggestions?Thank you!
thereuare Posted August 3, 2012 Report Posted August 3, 2012 There may be some event taking place but i don't see anything in the 2-3 places i checked (it could also be cruise ships embarkation/disembarkation if they are picking-up/dropping-off passengers) and rates are that high relative to what we've seen this summer... for some reason Boston has been extremely difficult this year.I'm assuming you have already bid the zones above at the 2* level and at $150? My guess is that you're looking at ~$175-$200 in the zones above, near the lower end of the rage if you include Waterfront in your bidding, near the higher end if you stick with the zones above. HOWEVER, this is not a lot of price variation between the lower rated hotels and the higher rated hotels, although you've already been turned down at $150 for a 2* hotel... ~$200 may actually get you a 4* property. Not sure if you're willing to increase your budget for a 2* or 3* hotel, if you are willing to raise it if you can get a 4* property for that amount, or if you want to consider other zones outside of 'boston proper' or wait it out and hope for lower prices in the week ahead (of course the risk that is that rates move up instead of down)Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Let us know your thoughts and we'll take it from there. jacana Posted August 3, 2012 Author Report Posted August 3, 2012 You are right. I checked the HOTWIRE hot rate and there is a 4* in Waterfront that only costs $208, and another 4* in BC costing $212. In that case, I am willing to increase my budget to $200 and try to bid a 4* in BH, BC, Copley, QM and Harbor Front. I had the impression that the commute from Waterfront to "downtown boston" is not that convenient, so I'll skip it. Any strategies? Thank you very much!
