BritS902 Posted August 1, 2012 Report Posted August 1, 2012 A little behind on bidding and knowing much about downtown San Francisco. Any tips for best locations to stay to be close to everything? We plan to explore the city a couple of days, do a day trip to the wineries another, visit Muir woods and Alcatraz, etc. Also, any tips on finding any hotels around $175 that are decent? I'm seeing some for $180, but they don't look too promising. Thanks!!
thereuare Posted August 2, 2012 Report Posted August 2, 2012 Welcome to BetterBidding!USE and USW are usually bid the most often. USW has the 'tenderloin area' which some people shy away from as there is a fair amount of homeless there who may beg for change... i don't know anyone who has had a security issue here as a result, but still some avoid it. As far as i know the 4* hotels in this area are generally considered to be ok and centrally located. After USE and USW... the Financial District is frequently bid as well as Fisherman's Wharf (this latter zone is somewhat touristy)I do think you have a decent chance at a 4* hotel in the USE or USW zones at $175 or less, but why don't you start by taking a look at the zone boundaries of the zones mentioned above and let us know how you'd like to proceed and we'll advise accordingly. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. BritS902 Posted August 2, 2012 Author Report Posted August 2, 2012 I used Priceline for those dates. Started with USW (because others I know who've gone to San Fran have stayed in Parc 44 and the Handlery) at $165, then went up to $175. Didn't get either. I'll try again and add USE.
BritS902 Posted August 2, 2012 Author Report Posted August 2, 2012 Went through the PRICELINE link here. Tried USW again at $180. Then tried USE and USW at $185. Finally tried USE, USF and Fisherman's Warf, 4*, at $190 and got Hotel Monaco. Hope it's a good win!
thereuare Posted August 3, 2012 Report Posted August 3, 2012 Congratulations on your success! Glad to see this didn't take too much more than your previous bids. The Kimpton does a great job and this property is no exception, receiving a 4.5/5.0 TA rating... they also have an included wine reception every nite which is a nice way to end the day and/or start a nite out on the town.Thank you for sharing your win and using the PRICELINE links on the board to begin your bidding.
