Lauting Posted August 1, 2012 Report Posted August 1, 2012 Hi All,I'm off to NYC for the first time for 2 weeks in October :D and basically I'm trying to find affordable accommodation and stumbled across Priceline and I'm wondering if this service is any good for long stays or is the site only good for 2-4 nights stay?If that's the case would it be advisable to book 3 different hotels for a 2 weeks stay via Priceline (don't really fancy doing that but if the prices are right and they are nearby then it might just have to be a sacrifice). The budget is $156 dollars a night for a double room. Thanks in advance,Alex

Lauting Posted August 3, 2012 Author Report Posted August 3, 2012 Apologies totally missed that question, i would say 3 star but I'm not too fussed as long as the hotel room is clean then that is fine with me as we'll be out most of the time and only be back at the hotel to shower and sleep.
thereuare Posted August 4, 2012 Report Posted August 4, 2012 Unfortunately this is an expensive time of year in NYC and i think your $156 budget is going to be difficult for this complete stay, and likely will be for most subsets of this trip.Have you found anything even close to your preferred budget? What will you do for this trip if not successful with PRICELINE up to $156/nite? What is the best deal you're currently able to find thru conventional booking channels? Is staying outside of the city, but staying someplace that is commutable, for part of your stay an option? (thereby coming in under budget and creating additional funds for nites inside the city)Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. Lauting Posted August 4, 2012 Author Report Posted August 4, 2012 The most affordable option is staying in an apartment via airbnb but i don't know how safe this option would be (I've also heard that short term rental of less than 4 weeks is illegal so i don't know if renting via airbnb is illegal).I haven't actually tried priceline yet as i was trying to get an idea of the prices in October, as from reading the forum I'm getting the impression priceline is more for weekend stays or short stays of 3/4 days.Could you possibly give me an indication of what prices to expect to pay for the October period and would moving from hotel to hotel (3/4 days stay) be a via option if the price per night is right? Thanks in advance,Alex
AaronJB Posted August 4, 2012 Report Posted August 4, 2012 PRICELINE is fine for a longer-term stay in many areas (unless it's unusually busy), but it is often difficult in NYC - especially in a very busy period like October. For Midtown - when looking at the entire period - I think you're probably looking at in the neighborhood of $175-215. It would depend on the zone. Rates are unfortunately busy/expensive throughout this period, although the 19th-22nd is somewhat better. It's worth trying up to $156 for these dates and sub-sections, but I also think it's going to be difficult for both an overall average and sub-sections.Thank you for using the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
