Jteh Posted August 1, 2012 Report Posted August 1, 2012 Hello this will be my family's first time going to NYC and I'm looking for a 3*+ hotel.Dates: 8/9-8/10 (two nights)Areas: Central Park South, Midtown East, Midtown West, Theatre DistrictI really hope this isn't too late!
AaronJB Posted August 1, 2012 Report Posted August 1, 2012 Welcome to Betterbidding. What would be your desired budget per night for this stay? Additionally, PRICELINE only guarantees double occupancy/1 bed - this is especially true in NYC, where rooms are often quite small to the point of (in some cases) not being able to fit a rollaway. How many are in your party, and is more than one bed needed?Thank you for using the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.

Jteh Posted August 2, 2012 Author Report Posted August 2, 2012 Looking at the other purchases, desired budget is $140/night, but I will make do with whatever is most appropriate for this place at this time of the year.
thereuare Posted August 2, 2012 Report Posted August 2, 2012 Hello this will be my family's first time going to NY...PRICELINE only guarantees double occupancy, after that it's at the discretion of the hotel, and you could receive a room with only one bed. While you can call the hotel you win and request a room with two beds, the hotel may not be able, or willing, to honor your request. Is this a risk you're willing to accept? If not, HOTWIRE may still be an option as they allow you to search for up to quad occupancy and ensure sleeping accommodations for everyone you include in your search (although this usually means two beds, the second 'bed' could be a sofabed, rollaway, etc)Are you willing to accept the occupancy issue?Of the zones you selected: Central Park South, Midtown East, Midtown West, Theatre District, note that:Note that when bidding 3.5* and lower:MTE - some 'known' hotels can be up to a 15 minute walk to the subway... is this acceptable?CPS - has the Hudson Hotel, which while well located, has notoriously small rooms (~140 sq. ft.).. is this acceptable?Let us know your thoughts and how you'd like to proceed and we'll take it from there. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. Jteh Posted August 3, 2012 Author Report Posted August 3, 2012 Thanks for the quick response. If that's the case then I would like to work with HOTWIRE instead to acquire a double occupancy room. Please remove MTE from my selection; I will keep CPS. Hopefully I can still get something with $140!
AaronJB Posted August 3, 2012 Report Posted August 3, 2012 If you search for 2a/2c during your dates are there any listings of interest? If so, please provide the star rating, zone, price (before taxes/fees) and complete list of amenities showing with the listing.Thank you for using the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
Jteh Posted August 4, 2012 Author Report Posted August 4, 2012 I'm interested in Midtown Central, Times Square, Empire State Building Area. Basically, the touristy stuff. Midtown East if that applies as well, but I'm concerned about the 15 minutes to Subway thing.I'm still going for 3*+, $150/night since I'm looking at double occupancy now. Amenities: free wifi.Check in 8/9, check out 8/11.
thereuare Posted August 5, 2012 Report Posted August 5, 2012 Since you're now looking for only double occupancy your options get quite a bit broader. For double occupancy i think you have a good chance at a 4* hotel in the MTE zone at $165 or less (all known hotels at the 4* level in this zone are convenient to the subway... it's only once you get to 3.5* and under that the 15 minute walk comes into play)... would this be of interest and worth raising your maximum bid for a 4* property? If you'd prefer to keep your budget lower and you are interested in the 3* above at $150 (which doesn't seem as good of a value relative to my thoughts on a 4* in the MTE zone above) which zone is this hotel located in?If you want to try PRICELINE (for the 4* in MTE) are you willing to accept other zones as well? Generally when bidding 4* in NYC the MTE, MTW, TS, CPS and ESB zones all work well for the average user and are considered to be centrally located (also note that the small CPS rooms only come into play at 3.5* and under... not a known issue at the 4* level)Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. Jteh Posted August 6, 2012 Author Report Posted August 6, 2012 If that's the case then I wouldn't mind upgrading to a 4* hotel at an appropriate price ($155/night?). I would really like to get this hotel as soon as possible now since the date is coming up. If PRICELINE will work now since I'm doing 4* double occupancy then that's great. I would be fine living in MTE, MTW, TS, CPS or ESB.Should I use PRICELINE or HOTWIRE? In either case, any further advice or help?
thereuare Posted August 6, 2012 Report Posted August 6, 2012 Since i think that a 4* MTE property will likely take $165 or less, i'll post a strategy for up to that amount but if you want to stop at $155 you can do so...When bidding 4* in NYC you have SEVEN re-bid zones. If you're not familiar with re-bidding please read Priceline Re-Bidding Explained and feel free to ask questions and/or confirm your re-bid zones with the board before proceeding.Select 4* MTE, MTW, TS...Bid $100, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $105, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $110, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $115, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $120, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $125, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $128, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $130, if rejected close browse and use this link to re-access PRICELINESelect 4* CPS or ESB...Bid $100, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $105, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $110, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $115, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $120, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $125, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $128, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $130, if rejected close browse and use this link to re-access PRICELINESelect 4* MTE, MTW, TS, ESB...Bid $133, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $135, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $138, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $140, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $143, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $145, if rejected close browse and use this link to re-access PRICELINESelect 4* MTE, MTW, TS, CPS...Bid $133, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $135, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $138, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $140, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $143, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $145, if rejected close browse and use this link to re-access PRICELINESelect 4* MTE, MTW, TS, CPS or ESB...Bid $148, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $150, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $153, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $155, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $158, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $160, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $163, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $165Any questions feel free to ask. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Good luck and let us know how it goes.
