jo-k Posted July 31, 2012 Report Posted July 31, 2012 Hi there,First time using BetterBidding to get a PRICELINE hotel, and I am using the links provided. Our dates are firm: September 3 check-in to September 6th check out. From what I've read out of scouring the forums here is that Boston is an expensive place to stay! Is it unreasonable to hope for a hotel in downtown Boston for around ~$70? We would rather stay in something less "star-quality" than pay more. Since this was a spontaneous trip, we'd like to allocate our funds to more sight-seeing and eating.I'm thinking that $70 for downtown Boston is highly unlikely; the only other priceline hotel win I saw around that price was $78 for a 3* in Boston Common/Theatre District by mm26. Our ideal is to score something similar, so our absolute max would be $80 per night. I know the budget is small, so what would you recommend? Moving out from downtown Boston is fine with us as long as it is close to the T. I know I'm probably missing a lot of background info here, but any assistance would be appreciated. Thanks for your help.
thereuare Posted August 1, 2012 Report Posted August 1, 2012 Rates are not that high for these dates, but unfortunately ~$80 isn't really realistic for these Boston dates. If you can up your budget to ~$110 you might be in a position for a 3* hotel in 'downtown' Boston. While you may be able to get something on the outskirts of the city, the issue there is there that zones become to get geographically larger which makes it tough(er) to ensure that you're near a T stop. Another option is HOTWIRE, which may typically cost a little more than HOTWIRE, but you can at least take a guess as to the hotel beforehand which would increase your chances of landing a hotel that was near a T station. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Let us know your thoughts and how you'd like to proceed and we'll take it from there. jo-k Posted August 2, 2012 Author Report Posted August 2, 2012 Hey thereuare,Thank you for your advice and help! Okay, so let's say our budget is bumped up to ~$110, what would you suggest for bidding strategy?
thereuare Posted August 3, 2012 Report Posted August 3, 2012 If you look at the PRICELINE zones (enter Boston in the search box on the top right of the board OR the biddinghelper search box in the middle) would a 3* hotel in Beacon Hill, Boston Common, Copley Square or Quincy Market zones all be acceptable? Please confirm and we'll suggest a strategy for you to follow. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. jo-k Posted August 13, 2012 Author Report Posted August 13, 2012 Hey!Thanks for your help. I'll be using the links of course, and will report my success once we book!

jo-k Posted August 14, 2012 Author Report Posted August 14, 2012 Okay, so I have to say, I made a mistake.I was preoccupied and didn't realize I had clicked the wrong rebid zone... and so I ended up with $80/night for the 3* Courtyard by Marriot in Cambridge. It's 0.8 miles from Central Station on the red line, and I think this is a good lesson to all - check your rebid zones and double check the second screen before you click confirm!! I was desperately trying to back out of the browser, but to no avail. Thanks for all your help though. :(
AaronJB Posted August 14, 2012 Report Posted August 14, 2012 Sorry to hear about the error - hopefully the hotel will still work out okay for your travel plans. You can try to plead your case to PRICELINE, but they may say no.Thank you for sharing your win and please use the site's PRICELINE or HOTWIRE links to start your purchases and searches.Enjoy your stay.
cjmorris08 Posted August 15, 2012 Report Posted August 15, 2012 Hi!This post was very helpful! I am in a very similar situation... I am traveling to Boston (from Ottawa, Ontario, Canada) and my dates are also firm: September 7 to 10. I would also like to stay in downtown Boston, but budget is an issue. I would really like to stay at about $100/night. However, I am open to staying in the outskirts of Boston, as long as there is direct access to the T.Aaron JB: Would you recommend using the same strategy as you suggested for jo-k? I will make sure to pay attention to the re-bid zones...I have never used PRICELINE before, but would like to take advantage of these offers.... However, I am slightly apprehensive to do so...!Thanks!
