javster Posted July 29, 2012 Report Posted July 29, 2012 Hi there. I'm staying in san francisco sept 18-20. I'd like to stay in Union Square East. I've stayed at the parc 55 my last two stays and booked through hotwire and really like that hotel or anything close. Hotwire isn't even showing hotels for this area. weird. Can you help me with a bidding strategy from $150 to $200 a night? Thanks.
thereuare Posted July 29, 2012 Report Posted July 29, 2012 Something is happening in the city for these dates as HOTWIRE is showing no availability, and using MAPS and HOTELS.com i'm seeing hotel direct rates for 4* in the $400-$500+ range... even the Super 8 is $200+.What is the minimum star rating you wanted to try for (and you may have to start thinking about adjusting your budget, star rating, or zone expectations (ie- staying out by the airport). Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.EDIT TO ADD: found a Dreamforce Conference taking place over these dates which is the largest cloud computing conference of the year (and cloud computing is certain a big buzz word these days) with over 40K attendees last year. javster Posted July 30, 2012 Author Report Posted July 30, 2012 Hi. Thank you very much for your help with this one. You're right, the convention sure did take up all the hotels everywhere. I did a lot of research through the night to find places to stay. I did consider staying near the airport, but just the convenience of staying near Union Square is why I was going to San Francisco. Having experienced walking in some scary areas near the Tenderloin, it was going to be important for me to not stay anywhere I would feel unsafe. Eventually I did find a hotel through the Priceline section where they show you the hotels, the Grant Plaza, which was in Chinatown and had good reviews for a lower budget hotel and it was close to everything and so I decided to purchase that (I had followed your link to PRICELINE) but it said only one room left and when I went to pay for it, the room was gone! So I decided to just search for that hotel on other websites and found one room on bookings.com and just bought it - $178 for two nights. I'm technically going to be out of the room all day and just sleeping there, so I don't really mind that as long as it's in a good area close to everything and safe. So, firstly sorry for the long post but also sorry for not using Priceline and your link for this booking. I did try...but circumstances with the convention stuffed everything up. I'll let you go how I go with my other bookings.
Romelle Posted July 30, 2012 Report Posted July 30, 2012 With the hotel booked that full, it could even be over-booked. It might be a good idea to check in as early in the day as possible. Romelle
javster Posted July 30, 2012 Author Report Posted July 30, 2012 Good idea. I'll get there as soon as possible after I arrive in San Francisco. I did email the hotel as well and they confirmed the booking for me, so they already had received the paperwork from booking.com. And they emailed me a confirmation from their part. I hope that's all that I'll need. :)Jav
