JFincher Posted July 28, 2012 Report Posted July 28, 2012 For the last few days I've been trying to win a bid on Priceline for a 4* arriving 8/1/12 and departing 8/4/12. I've started with a bid of $115 in the Beverly Hills / West Hollywood area and have added an area along with raising the bid by $5 each time the previous bid was rejected until eventually I included every area in LA except for the airport. The maximum amount I am wanting to pay is $145 a night. According to other forum postings and the Priceline and Hotwire Calendar of Wins, that doesn't seem unlikely. Do you have any thoughts or advice?
thereuare Posted July 29, 2012 Report Posted July 29, 2012 Welcome to BetterBidding!Rates are date sepecific, and in the Priceline and Hotwire Calendar of Wins i don't see any wins for these same exact dates at the 4* level at $145 or under. If you look at the dates individually there is a 4* win for 8/1-8/3 at $200/nite (and a solo nite win at a 4* for $120 but that's just one nite of the three that you need)Using BiddingHelper.com and/or MAPS and HOTELS.com what is the best rate you're able to find at a 4* hotel thru convenitonal booking channels? Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. JFincher Posted July 30, 2012 Author Report Posted July 30, 2012 On MAPS and HOTELS.com.com, the best price I can find for a 4* is $199. BiddingHelper.com.com had the same, starting at $199 on Hotels.com and $225 on HOTWIRE.
thereuare Posted July 30, 2012 Report Posted July 30, 2012 At current rates i think you're doing to need to be closer to $200 than you will $145... you have already bid up to $145 for a 4* hotel, correct? What is your game plan if $145 is still not accepted... raise your budget, lower your star rating, or include other zone(s) such as the airport (where i do think you can get a 4* hotel for under $145)Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. JFincher Posted July 31, 2012 Author Report Posted July 31, 2012 Since it's not looking like $145 isn't going to work for all three days, and since I'm flexible, I've split my trip between two different locations. In doing so, I bid on the first night by itself and won a bid of $120 at the 4* Hyatt Regency Century Plaza in Beverly Hills. I'm still working on the other two days. I'm also looking at 4* hotels in the Orange County area for the same price. I'll let you know what I find. Thanks for your help!
