lmn Posted July 28, 2012 Report Posted July 28, 2012 Hello,I am new to this forum. I have bid on Priceline several times before, but usually I have a trip planned several months ahead. However, this time, I just booked my flight a couple days ago! I have a friend staying with me part of the trip. I am considering booking a hotel for 8/1-8/4, and then perhaps finding another hotel the last two days, 8/4-8/7, that is if it makes it easier to find a hotel for the bulk of my trip with preferences I like.I am really interested in a 3.5 to 4-star hotel in Soho/Tribeca for a max $130/night. Is that feasible? I would be open to a 3 star that is chaper with at least a 8 guest rating. I would also be open to the following:3.5/4 star in Financial District (I liked Marriott Downtown)3.5/4 start in Chelsea4 star in Upper Manhattan (I did noT like the 3.5 Park Central)4 star in Midtown EastI really liked Hotel Mulberry in Chinatown, but I think they're full. This is a great site! I appreciate any help, thank you.
thereuare Posted July 28, 2012 Report Posted July 28, 2012 Which zone(s) and star rating(s) would you like to try for first?...and then perhaps finding another hotel the last two days, 8/4-8/7Did you mean the last three days... or do you have the dates wrong? Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. lmn Posted July 28, 2012 Author Report Posted July 28, 2012 I would like to try the 4 star in Soho/Tribeca.Oh, yes, I meant the last three days, thank you!
thereuare Posted July 28, 2012 Report Posted July 28, 2012 When bidding in NYC at the 4* level you have SEVEN re-bid zones... at the 3.5* level you have SIX re-bid zones. I'm doubtful that your budget will be enough for this complete stay, and it likely won't be enough for either segment of this stay either, but you can try as follows:Select 4* Soho-Tribeca...Bid $95, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $100, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $100, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $110, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $115, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $120, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $125, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $130, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINE...Select 3.5* Soho-Tribeca...Bid $100, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $100, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $110, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $115, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $120, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $125, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $130You can try each for the complete stay, then if rejected re-try for just the last 3 nites... if successful you can then try for the first 3 nites.Any questions feel free to ask. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Good luck and let us know how it goes. lmn Posted July 29, 2012 Author Report Posted July 29, 2012 Just an update--I didn't have any luck for 8/1-8/4.I went as high as $155 for 3.5 in Soho/Tri, Financial, and Chelsea :/
lmn Posted July 29, 2012 Author Report Posted July 29, 2012 I also didn't have any luck for $145 in ESB, MTE, MSG, UES, UWS, and HK (8/1-8/4.)
AaronJB Posted July 29, 2012 Report Posted July 29, 2012 Sorry to hear that your bids weren't accepted. :(Still, I'm guessing you're not far off - I think you're likely looking at $165-180 for a 3.5* in these zones.Thank you for using the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
lmn Posted July 29, 2012 Author Report Posted July 29, 2012 What do you think I would be looking at for a 3* for each of Soho, Financial, Chelsea, UES, UWS? I couldn't get anything for $147.
thereuare Posted July 29, 2012 Report Posted July 29, 2012 As it appears you'll be SPLITTING YOUR PRICELINE BID, let's use this thread for 8/1-8/4 and feel free to start a NEW TOPIC for 8/4-8/7. If you ultimately combine the dates and make one purchase we'll simply merge the threads.Let's backtrack a moment since you're now deviating from your original zone selections... what exactly are your needs for this trip? Do you need to be in a specific location OR just 'centrally location' for general NYC sightseeing? Is there a reason you're not bidding any of the zones on the east side, such as MTE and/or ESB, at the 3* level? Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. lmn Posted July 31, 2012 Author Report Posted July 31, 2012 Is Hotel Mulberry considered in Financial or LES? When you're just "browsing" on PRICELINE, it lists Hotel Mulberry as the only 1-star on "(Wall Street.)" However, when you click on Downtown Financial District bid zone, there are no 1-star hotels available. By looking at a map, and since Hotel Mulberry is in Chinatown, would it LES instead on the bid zone? I would like to bid on it, but I'm not sure which zone to pick.
AaronJB Posted August 1, 2012 Report Posted August 1, 2012 Do not look at the retail side to determine a zone, as the retail side of the service is different than the bidding side. It appears the Mulberry does not participate on the bidding side, as it does not fall within any of the shaded zones on the bidding side. What are you looking for from the stay? Do you need to be in a particular area?Thank you for using the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
