silencer Posted July 23, 2012 Report Posted July 23, 2012 I have been trying to use priceline to bid for 4* hotels in Downtown Montreal & Old Montreal area for August 4 to 6 (civil holiday).I started bidding about 3 weeks ago, went up to $110 with no success. After that I tried every couple of days, until today. Up to $110, still no success. From my past experience and what I see on this board, $110 for 4* should be normal (or at least not too low to only get a automatic refusal, not even a counter offer). What's going on with these dates? Also, even 3 weeks ago I noticed that when I search for hotels through SPG website for 8.4 (Saturday), it says no rooms available for my dates in Sheraton, Westin, W Montreal, Meridien. What's going on with August 4??Anyways, just sharing my unsuccessful bids.
thereuare Posted July 23, 2012 Report Posted July 23, 2012 I did find see the Festival de Lanaudiere Montreal is coming to an end, but i don't know how big of an event the final days are... or it could be the holiday causing increased demand?Whatever the reason for the increased demand isn't important, but realizing higher than usual rates and adjusting your bidding accordingly is important. Is this a discretionary trip and $110 is the highest you're willing to bid? Will you lower your star rating, increase your budget, or cancel the trip if still unsuccessful as you get closer to your dates? Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
drmarv Posted August 2, 2012 Report Posted August 2, 2012 It is a civic holiday on the 1st monday in August for people in Ontario. Many will travel to Montreal. That may be the explanation. Good Luck!
