Kalle85 Posted July 21, 2012 Report Posted July 21, 2012 Hey thereI am currently planning a trip to NYC for the period from 2012/10/05 - 2012/10/15 and my budget is max 200 USD per night for a 4 star hotel.I looked at the map and the following regions seems to be good for me (please correct me if you see a problem with a region):CPSChelsea AreaDowntown Financial DistrictEmpire StateHells KitchenLower East SideMadisson Square GardenMidtown westSOHOTImes SquareUpper East SideIf not necessary to achieve lower price I would not split the dates. Can you provide me with a bidding strategy as I am new to priceline.thank you very much for your help, will use your provided links!Kalle
thereuare Posted July 21, 2012 Report Posted July 21, 2012 Welcome to BetterBidding!Few comments about the following zones:Hells Kitchen - the only known hotel is Ink48 which gets excellent reviews, but it is a bit far west, so you'll need to decide if you are willing to make a 'trek' to the subway each time you want to access. It's certainly do-able, but it's a trade-off between a higher quality hotel and convenience for the subwayDowntown Financial District - a little of out the way. Subways are usually nearby but it's a 20-25 minute trip to midtown if that is where most of your activities will be centered around. The zone is usually one of the cheaper ones, so similar to above, this zone is a trade-off between convenience and budget. These zones currently have no 4* hotels in them so won't be included in a 4* bidding strategy:Lower East SideMadisson Square GardenUpper East SidePlease confirm which zone(s) you'd like to include in your bidding and we'll suggest a strategy for you to follow. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. Kalle85 Posted July 21, 2012 Author Report Posted July 21, 2012 Thank you very much for your reply and good advise! I would like to include Financial District but not Hells Kitchen as easy subway access is a clear must. Would be very happy if you could provide me with a suitable bidding strategyThxKalle

Kalle85 Posted July 22, 2012 Author Report Posted July 22, 2012 I have a probably stupid questions, what would be the rebid zones i would have to choose? If I figure correctly it would be lower east side, upper east side and madisson square garden as they do not have 4 star hotels (see above). Is this correct and what would be the other ones? Thanks a lotKalle
AaronJB Posted July 22, 2012 Report Posted July 22, 2012 Those are correct, but there are others. On the screen where star rating and zone is selected during the bidding process, click and unclick each zone individually in order to see the highest star rating each particular zone, then let us know the full list that you find. This has to be done when starting the bidding process because there is the possibility that star rating availability in a zone can change at times (new hotel, hotel changes star rating, etc.)Thank you for using the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
Kalle85 Posted July 22, 2012 Author Report Posted July 22, 2012 I followed the strategy but unfortunately did not get a hotel at a price of 200 USD a day.Do you think that the changes of getting a hotel will be better when the date is closer to the actual stay, or do I maybe have to split the days?Or do you think that it is actually impossible to get a room at 200 USD /night?thanksKalle
AaronJB Posted July 22, 2012 Report Posted July 22, 2012 The FAQ discusses purchase timing. The last night does seem somewhat cheaper than the rest, so you may get some moderate benefit from splitting the stay, although the first couple of nights remain expensive. While unfortunately expensive, I don't think you're too terribly far off for the entire stay - my guess is that a 4* in Midtown may take $210-225.Thank you for using the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to star your purchases and searches.
Kalle85 Posted March 9, 2015 Author Report Posted March 9, 2015 In the end my parents (as i was looking for them) decided to go for a 5 star in Jersey City, they booked direct and i think it was called the Pier
thereuare Posted March 9, 2015 Report Posted March 9, 2015 Thank you for closing this thread with your decision. Please remember to follow-up your threads with your wins/decisions as you make them (even if you don't ultimately use PRICELINE / HOTWIRE, cancel the trip, book direct, etc) as this help keep the board better organized and more useful for everyone... as well as being a courtesy to anyone who took the time to help with your travel plans. When seeking advice for others and they will be making the purchase on their own, please ask them to stop by the board and use the PRICELINE or HOTWIRE links at the top of the board (the logos within each search box are clickable as well) or to book thru our sister site MAPS and HOTELS.com for their regular rate purchases. Thanks. Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
