Val23 Posted July 20, 2012 Report Posted July 20, 2012 Im Looking for a 4* to 3 1/2* hotel somewhere close to central park. No more than $140 per night. Any suggestions? I'll be in NYC from 9/22/12 to 9/27/12.
thereuare Posted July 20, 2012 Report Posted July 20, 2012 Welcome to BetterBidding! This is a very expensive time of year in NYC and your budget of $140 will not likely be enough for a 3.5* or higher for these dates. However, if you want to give it a try, let us know which zones, by PRICELINE name, you're willing to accept.Note that when bidding 3.5* and lower:MTE - some 'known' hotels can be up to a 15 minute walk to the subway... is this acceptable?CPS - has the Hudson Hotel, which while well located, has notoriously small rooms (~140 sq. ft.).. is this acceptable?Let us know the information above and we'll suggest a strategy for you to follow. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. Val23 Posted July 20, 2012 Author Report Posted July 20, 2012 Thank you for your reply,I wouldn't mind the hudson with smaller bedrooms. I've been researching and the areas I would like are MTW, MTE, TS, CPS, UES , and UWS. I'm hoping for 3.5 or. 4 *. Will you be able to help ? My max bid would be $140.
thereuare Posted July 21, 2012 Report Posted July 21, 2012 There are no 3.5* hotels currently offered in the UES zone so we won't include that in your bidding. When bidding 3.5* in NYC you have SIX re-bid zones. If you're not familiar with re-bidding please read Priceline Re-Bidding Explained and feel free to ask questions and/or confirm your re-bid zones with the board before proceeding.Select 3.5* MTW, MTW, TS and UWS...Bid $90, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $100, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $105, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $110, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $115, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $120, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $123, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINE...Select 3.5* CPS...Bid $90, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $100, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $105, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $110, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $115, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $120, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $123, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINE...Select 3.5* MTW, MTW, TS, UWS, CPS...Bid $125, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $128, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $130, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $133, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $135, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $138, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $140Any questions feel free to ask. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Good luck and let us know how it goes. Val23 Posted July 21, 2012 Author Report Posted July 21, 2012 Hello again,I was unable to bid for any 4*, 3.5* , 3*, or 2.5* hotels under $140.I selected MTW, MTE, CPS, MSG, TS, UES, UWS, QUEENS BOROUGHT. Any other suggestions? My max budget is $140 so I'll been looking the hotels and the 2.5 and 3 stars are fine with me. And I dont mind a small room as long as its clean.
thereuare Posted July 21, 2012 Report Posted July 21, 2012 Your best chance for something at $140 or under is if you include the Downtown zone in your bidding... and even that may be tough. If you're not successful in Manhattan you may also want to consider areas outside of NYC such as Hoboken-Jersey City.Let us know if you're willing to expand the Manhattan zones you're willing to accept and we'll suggest a strategy for you to follow. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. Val23 Posted July 21, 2012 Author Report Posted July 21, 2012 I'm trying to stay in the manhattan area. Is it too soon for me to be bidding for september for good deals? Or are 2 months good. I can maybe go up to $150 or $155. And ill be willing to go to downtown or soho or chelsea i needed. Any suggestions ? I saw this posting but its for August. I'm wondering if I can use it for September for any 4, 3.5, 3, and maybe 2.5*.Just wanted to share my win for the W New York at Lex (ME) for 8/4 to 8/6/12 for $150 per night. I chose 4 star only all the way and bidding was as follows:Midtown East 108Coney Island 111Long Island City 114Times Square 117Midtown West 120Central Park South 123Chelsea 126Hell's Kitchen 129Madison Square 132Empire State 135Queensborough Bridge 138Lower East Side 141Upper East Side 144Upper West Side 147Morningside Heights - Harlem 150Basically, I went though all the areas except for Downtown and Soho where there are a lot of 4 stars as I wanted to stay as near to midtown as possible.I used your PRICELINE link and followed the bidding strategy of others for NY. Thanks, everyone!
thereuare Posted July 22, 2012 Report Posted July 22, 2012 Congratulations on your success! I'm assuming due to the high rates during your previous September dates you decided to change your travel plans and travel during the less expensive month of September... or is this trip in addition to your previous dates? You're also near my often recommended Ess-A-Bagel (Third Ave at 51st St) which has one of the best bagels in the city, makes for a nice, and relatively inexpensive, breakfast among local NYers.Thank you for sharing your win and using the PRICELINE links on the board to begin your bidding. Val23 Posted July 22, 2012 Author Report Posted July 22, 2012 I'm sorry for the confusion I haven't booked a hotel. This is someone else's posting and I was wondering if it would work for me. I'm still looking for a 4* to 2.5* hotel for 9/22 to 9/27 anywhere in manhattan.
Val23 Posted July 22, 2012 Author Report Posted July 22, 2012 I was also wondering of you knew what the average rates for the hotels that I'm looking for during my travel dates and the appropriate stars
AaronJB Posted July 22, 2012 Report Posted July 22, 2012 Rates vary significantly from day-to-day and seasonally. August is part of the slower Summer season, then rates ramp once September starts and go higher into the Fall/Winter. $150 for these dates unfortunately is unlikely - based on HOTWIRE and regular rates, I think you're likely looking at over (and possibly well over) $200 per night for a 4*, and in some areas possibly close to $300. I think $140 or under is unfortunately going to be extremely difficult/unlikely in general for these dates.Thank you for using the site's PRICELINE or HOTWIRE links to start your purchases and searches.
