san777 Posted July 19, 2012 Report Posted July 19, 2012 Hello,Thank you for running this forum it has been very educational. My friend and I had booked a trip to NYC this october and were looking at booking hotels using PRICELINE. This is our first time in new york and we were thinking of staying in midtown east or times square. I have used HOTWIRE in the pas and on hotwire it looks like most hotel rooms are going for about 200-300 a night for a four star hotel, is that what we should be aiming for in our bids on PRICELINE?I also saw on a previous post that it may be worth (cheaper) splitting up our dates for hotels as opposed to trying to find one hotel for the week, is this true?
AaronJB Posted July 20, 2012 Report Posted July 20, 2012 Welcome to Betterbidding. :)Splitting the stay is a worthwhile consideration if there is a significant variation in prices over a period (if a week, the first few days are significantly cheaper than the last four due to a convention or other event the last four, for example.) If a week is consistently busy or consistently cheap or somewhere in-between, then splitting is not really of any benefit. Are you only interested in MTE and TS, or would there be other areas of interest? PRICELINE is cheaper than HOTWIRE in almost all occasions, but it depends on what you are looking for - HOTWIRE gives more information and a better chance of possibly figuring out which hotels are showing (and possibly getting one that may be of more interest.)Thank you for using the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.

san777 Posted July 21, 2012 Author Report Posted July 21, 2012 We're open to staying anywhere, in Manhattan Times square seemed like a good area to stay as we thought it would be convenient as it was central.
thereuare Posted July 22, 2012 Report Posted July 22, 2012 I think you're likely looking at ~$240-$260 for a 4* hotel in the MTE or TS zone... do you want to stick with these two zones OR do you want to include other zones? Other zones often bid at the 4* level and generally considered to be convenient for the average user are CPS, MTW and ESB. Is ~$250 within your expected budget? Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.
