Allura Posted July 19, 2012 Report Posted July 19, 2012 Goal was 2 specific nights in Markham. I don't know if I did it in the most ideal fashion but I'll post how I got there. It kind of went like this:4*, markham, $50, July 27 (rejected)3.5*, markham, $51, July 27 (rejected)3.5*, markham,$51, July 28 (rejected)3*, markham, $51, July 27 (rejected)3*, markham, scarborough, $52, July 27 (rejected)3*, markham, scarborough, $53 ,July 28 (rejected)3*, markham, scarborough, toronto dt south, $54, July 28 (rejected)3*, markham, scarborough, toronto dt south, $55, July 27 (won)Sometimes Priceline allows you to extend your stay, before or after, so I banked on that and successfully extended it to the 29th. (But I do remember a few years ago that I tried to extend my stay through priceline and failed.) I went through alot of nerve-racking rebids, so would appreciate any advice to better my process. Very happy with this hotel at this rate. :D I couldn't have done it without this site. Used links on this board to access PRICELINE.
thereuare Posted July 19, 2012 Report Posted July 19, 2012 Congratulations on your success! Glad to see this worked out well for your and you're pleased with the results.I didn't look at day-to-day rates for this stay, but unless you saw a big price difference between the two nites i wouldn't have split the bid and have risked changing hotels mid-stay on a 2 nite trip. That alone would have cut your bidding down in half. It's also not recommended to increase your bid amount while decreasing your star rating, as explained in more detail in this thread: If You Lower Your Star Rating then Lower Your Price.Ultimately this worked out fine and i'm not sure if the above would have made any difference in your result, but following 'best practices' may help your future bidding. Feel free to ask for help before bidding for your next opaque hotel.Thank you for sharing your win and using the PRICELINE links on the board to begin your bidding. Enjoy your stay. Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
JWL Posted July 23, 2012 Report Posted July 23, 2012 You could have done more bids the same day by adding zones that didn't have the level you were looking for. For example, Don Valley only has 2.5 star hotels so you could have added that zone and re-bid for a 3* Markham hotel without any risk of getting a Don Valley hotel.
