mrsmb Posted July 18, 2012 Report Posted July 18, 2012 Is something going on this weekend in DC? I've been trying to bid 4* in Arlington. I have been successful twice in the past for getting the Hyatt for $55 and $62 for a weekend stay (although in September and I know the summer months are more). I don't want to stay right in DC. The Le Meridien is full as is the Doubletree in Crystal City (going through hotel's website). The Hyatt's lowest price was showing $179. The Westin Gateway showed a special prepaid rate of $103 or standard rate of $167. I would like to stay in the $70-75 price range because I have to consider the daily parking rates. I'm willing to bid up to the last possible minute and then possibly go for either 3.5* Arlington or Crystal City. The only thing is I don't think I want the Sheraton National hotel Which is the one everyone seems to be getting- although it's full if you try through their website. Do you think I am wasting my time trying for a 4* in Arlington at that limit?I've been maximizing my free rebids.
thereuare Posted July 18, 2012 Report Posted July 18, 2012 Welcome (officially) to BetterBidding!I have been successful twice in the past for getting the Hyatt for $55 and $62 for a weekend stay (although in September and I know the summer months are more). It would be appreciated if you started to share your wins with the board so that others can benefit from the information.Do you think I am wasting my time trying for a 4* in Arlington at that limit?Wasting your time? No, because you're not that far from a win and you have nothing to lose by bidding.Do i think you'll be successful? No, i think your bids are likely too low and with only two days before arrival you're not giving yourself much time for rates to change and have success.I don't want to stay right in DC.Even if cheaper than staying outside of the city? Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. mrsmb Posted July 19, 2012 Author Report Posted July 19, 2012 Even if cheaper than staying outside of the city? Unfortunately, yes.....plus from what I have found the parking is more at hotels in DC, so it would probably wash. I know it is last minute....I have been trying for a little over a week.I'll update with my progress

Unfortunately, yes.....plus from what I have found the parking is more at hotels in DC, so it would probably wash.Likely close to a wash in terms of expense, but you gain the convenience of being directly in the city so less commute time (and metro expense) each day. As well, you could possibly find a Metro Station with low cost parking outside of the city... leave your car there for the weekend and commute to the hotel to start your trip... commute back to the car at the end of your stay.(just thinking out loud)Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Keep us updated on your progress and let us know what you ultimately decide for this stay.
