Hotwire Hotel: 4* New York City (Times Square - Theater District) Millenium Broadway

I have unsuccessfully bid up to $200.00 for both 4 & 3.5* for 8/26 to 8/31 in Times Square. Any tips would be much appreciated, budget would probably be up to $250.00, but I was hoping for something under $200.00 per night. Not keen on splitting my bid, would leaving the bidding until a later date be a better idea?

My advice would be to expanding beyond just the Times Square zone, as discussed in this Hotels Near Times Square thread. Other zones (at the 4* level, not necessarily the 3.5* level) recommended include MTE, MTW, CPS and ESB.

Nobody can say if prices will come down or move even higher between now and your stay, but if you decide to restrict yourself to only Times Square, it becomes even more difficult to guess as you're basically hoping that one of two offers (a 4* and a 3.5* hotel since HOTWIRE only shows one hotel at each star level per zone) will be within your budget.

If you still only want the Times Square area HOTWIRE has what i believe to be the Manhattan Hotel at Times Square for $160/nite should this be of any interest.

For its size NYC is a relative safe city and you'll likely be fine to walk almost any streets in midtown, but just like any other city, you need to be aware of your surroundings at all times.

The issue with MTE is that at the 3.5* level some hotels can be up to a 15 minute walk to the subway... would this be acceptable? At the 4* level all 'known' hotels are well located and within close proximity to the subway.

Are you bidding 4* first up to your limit and then if rejected lowering your star rating to 3.5*... OR is your goal the least expensive 3.5* hotel for this stay?

Have you been to NYC before?

4* would be preferable first, in order of TS, MTW, MTE

Did you want to bid up to $200 first in the TS zone, then up to $200 in the MTW zone, then up to $200 in the MTE zone... or is the least expensive 4* or better in any of these zones the goal (especially that you know $200 isn't likely enough at the moment based upon your previous bidding in this zone)

Have you been to NYC before?

...i prefer to bid up to $200 in that order...

Can you please clarify what you mean. I'm assuming it's one of these:

1) bid up to your limit for the TS zone, if rejected bid up to your limit for the MTW zone, if rejected bid up to your limit for the MTE zone

OR

2) the least expensive 4* or better in either the TS or MTW or MTE zone

As you've never been to NYC before, you will likely find that most midtown zones/locations (at the 4* level... 3.5* begins to have some caveats of 'known' hotels being a little out of the way or notoriously small rooms) to be equally convenient.

Please confirm #1 vs. #2 above, or if you meant something different please explain further, and we'll advise accordingly.

Sorry :) I meant I am willing to bid to $215.00 for TS (4 / 3.5*), then if unsuccessful, up to $200.00 in MTW (4*), and if that fails MTE to $200.00 (4*).

Are rates usually higher during this period in August (8/26 to 31/8) ?

Thanks

When bidding for a 4* hotel in NYC you have SEVEN re-bid zones... at the 3.5* level you have SIX re-bid zones. If you're not familiar with re-bidding please read Priceline Re-Bidding Explained and feel free to ask questions and/or confirm your re-bid zones with the board before proceeding.

(NOTE: 're-bid zone1' is not the same as priceline's Zone1, 're-bid zone2' is not the same as priceline's Zone2, etc, etc)

Select 4* TS...

Bid $120, if rejected add re-bid zone1...

Bid $125, if rejected add re-bid zone2...

Bid $130, if rejected add re-bid zone3...

Bid $135, if rejected add re-bid zone4...

Bid $140, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINE

Select 4* TS and re-bid zone5...

Bid $145, if rejected add re-bid zone1...

Bid $150, if rejected add re-bid zone2...

Bid $155, if rejected add re-bid zone3...

Bid $160, if rejected add re-bid zone4...

Bid $165, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINE

Select 4* TS and re-bid zone6...

Bid $170, if rejected add re-bid zone1...

Bid $175, if rejected add re-bid zone2...

Bid $180, if rejected add re-bid zone3...

Bid $185, if rejected add re-bid zone4...

Bid $188, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINE

Select 4* TS and re-bid zone5 and re-bid zone6...

Bid $193, if rejected add re-bid zone2...

Bid $195, if rejected add re-bid zone3...

Bid $198, if rejected add re-bid zone4...

Bid $200

If the above is rejected close browser and once again use the board link to re-access PRICELINE, repeat the above but at the 3.5* level.

If that too is rejected close browser and once again use the board link to re-access PRICELINE, repeat the above but at the 4* level and bidding MTW.

If that too is rejected close browser and once again use the board link to re-access PRICELINE, repeat the above but at the 4* level and bidding MTE.

Any questions feel free to ask (especially regarding re-bidding if you're new to the concept).

thanks for your help, but I didn't get anywhere with this. It seems a lot of people are having a hard time with bidding at the moment ! I opted to use hotwire, and from the hotwire forum it was a certainty that the 4* hotel was the Millennium. I was happy with this location, went ahead, and did end up scoring the Millennium Times Square.
