Vikas Posted July 17, 2012 Report Posted July 17, 2012 I'm trying to book 2 nights - 8/29&8/30 for a 4* in San Francisco. Trying for Nob Hill or Union Station East area, but any 4* downtown would be fineI used another persons strategy (Oilers14)"Started with 4* Union Square West - Nob Hill, bid $135/ntAdded zones 1, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 11 (non 4* zones) in $5 increments up to $175/ntAdded Union Square East (4* zone 13), bid $180. Added zone 1Got the 4* Hotel Nikko Union Square West - Nob Hill at $185/nt."I started at 150-Nob Hill(13), bidding up by $5-$10, I had added zones 1-3-4-5-6,then other 4* -2-9-12 and reached $200 without any success. I know its before labor day weekend, and was able to book the weekend thru the wedding party I'm attending. The price I got for that was around 210. Should I try HOTWIRE, i've never used it in the past. Any advice would help. I was using the link from this site.
thereuare Posted July 17, 2012 Report Posted July 17, 2012 ...was able to book the weekend thru the wedding party I'm attending. The price I got for that was around 210.The weekend dates are actually less expensive then these midweek nites prior... you can likely do better than the $210/nite that you have reserved thru the wedding party, but not sure if that is of interest since there may be events (and perhaps the reception itself) taking place at the wedding hotel, making it worth a premium to stay on-site.I started at 150-Nob Hill(13), bidding up by $5-$10, I had added zones 1-3-4-5-6,then other 4* -2-9-12 and reached $200 without any success.... Should I try HOTWIRE, i've never used it in the past. You can try looking at HOTWIRE (use the BiddingHelper.com search box at the top of the page to search PRICELINE, HOTWIRE, and Hotels.com all at one ;) ), but these dates are very expensive and there is nothing offered there at the 4* level at prices less than you have already bid. What is the wedding hotel? Are there events taking place there that you want to stay there, or did it just seem convenient and a good price? Have you tried calling the hotel and seeing if they would extend the $210/nite wedding rate for the two days prior? Thanks for using the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board. Vikas Posted July 22, 2012 Author Report Posted July 22, 2012 The only nights I was looking on priceline was for the Wed/Thu. The hotel I have for the weekend is a 4* near all the wedding festivities, so i'm fine with the price for those days. I actually ended up booking a cheaper hotel directly that is in the area I will be staying. This is will be an expensive trip for me, so I don't might simpler hotel for 2 days. Thanks for your suggestions.
thereuare Posted July 22, 2012 Report Posted July 22, 2012 I actually ended up booking a cheaper hotel directly that is in the area I will be staying.Sorry, it's not clear from your post... did you find a hotel on your own apart from the wedding for the weekend and still need the Wed/Thur nites... OR did you find something on your own for Wed/Thur nites and are staying at the wedding hotel over the weekend, and therefore your plans are complete for this trip? Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Let us know if any nites are still 'open' for this trip and you need further help.
