mixingbuddha Posted July 15, 2012 Report Posted July 15, 2012 So I should have probably asked for some more advice from the forum. Essentially what I was trying to do is is I'm getting in late on 7/20, so I didn't want to pay an arm an a leg for a less than 1/2 night's stay. So I figured, I would just get a relatively cheap hotel the first night. I have a work conference from 7/24-7/30. 7/21 - 7/24 was on my dime. The rest is on the company's. So I was hoping to get a hotel on the strip near Caesar's from 7/21 - 7/24 from Priceline, and then get the same hotel via Orbitz/etc for the work portion of my trip (this is more of a policy issue, which is why I couldn't use Priceline for the rest of the trip). This was the final result. 1. 7/20 - Congratulations, we've upgraded your hotel quality level to a 4 star hotel. Your price of $55 was accepted by Westin Las Vegas Hotel, Casino & Spa. (Near Las Vegas Strip East) - You saved 65%. - Resort Fee - WESTIN CASUARINA: $11.50. Includes: daily newspaper, fitness center access, pool access, unlimted local and 800 calls, boarding pass printing, notary public services and incoming faxes. Randomest amenity: Tie between incoming faxes and notary public.2. 7/21 - 7/24 - Congratulations. We just booked your stay at the Trump International Hotel, Las Vegas for just $90 a night. You saved even more with your $30 Bonus Cash! (Las Vegas Strip Vicinity North) - You saved 30%. - TRUMP: $19.95 $25. Includes: Internet, fitness center access, $25 credit at the Trump Spa, Shuttle service to the Strip and Forum Shops, 10 percent discount at Trump Stores and retail area at the spa, two bottles of water, local and toll free phone calls, incoming faxes, boarding pass printing, newspaper delivery, in-room coffee and shoe shine service. Best amenity: Spa discount.3. 7/24 - 7/30 - Via Orbitz - Wynn Las Vegas for $177.88/night average ($150 in resort fees due when I get to the hotel). - Resort Fee - WYNN LAS VEGAS: $20 $25. Includes: Internet, fitness center access, unlimited local and toll-free phone calls. Once again, this fee does not apply to those booking the Tower Suites. Best amenity: Fitness center as the in-room Internet doesn't even work that well.So a couple of interesting things about this whole ordeal. a. I think the Priceline Hotel List on this site has Westin as 3.5 Stars, Priceline classifies it as a 4*. b. The bidding on the Trump, I messed up. I was trying to get the Venetian, Wynn, or Palazzo, which are all in Strip North. But I don't think I could have gotten them for $90/night. Since I didn't get those 3, I have some regret and just wished I stayed at the Westin the 4 nights, and switched to Wynn the last night. Especially since it seems to be heavily discounted. I realize it's a 4* and it's bit farther from the strip. So other than my griping/own stupidity, I wanted to see how other people would have bid on this situation. Also, any suggestions on which one of these places I could use the $20/tip or try to get some other freebies/upgrades. Thanks in advance for your advice.
thereuare Posted July 15, 2012 Report Posted July 15, 2012 About 2 months ago the Westin was downgraded to the 3.5* level, thanks for letting us know it has since been upgraded to the 4*, we have updated the Priceline Hotel List accordingly. The only 'mistake' that i can see is that you won the Trump, which you're not happy with as a result... so why add the Strip North Vicinity zone (where the Trump is located) if you didn't want to win this property? Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.
