travelbuddy Posted July 29, 2005 Report Posted July 29, 2005 good info here. I tried whistler on priceline after reading edyvr's post.selected resort, and bid 75, rejected and rebid selecting 4* rasing bid to 77. no go.realized that his bid was same day and successful - one year ago.did another bid:selected resort, and bid 80, rejected and rebid selecting 4* rasing bid to 90. no go.did another bid:selected resort, and bid 100, rejected and rebid changing to 8/1-2 one night rasing bid to 101 . no go. I'm afraid that if I selected 4*, i would not be saving that much.I also figure that I can get better prices as date gets closer. Am I wrong?any help would be greatly appreciated.thanks
thereuare Posted July 29, 2005 Report Posted July 29, 2005 Welcome to BetterBidding! The Whistler post you are refering to was from a year ago... hotel rates are generally up since that time and/or rates for that particular date may have been low occupancy (thus cheaper opaque rates as well). If you look further more recent wins have been in excess of $100.If you want to look at other properties Hotwire has what appears to be the 4* Pan Pacific for $114/nite (your rate may differ slightly) and the 3.5* Summit Lodge for $93/nite which one of our users wrote a nice HOTEL REVIEW. You can match the amenties shown on your Hotwire search to those in our HOTWIRE HOTEL LIST.Of course you can try to beat the above prices by bidding on Priceline, but you'll then have less control over which 3* property you may get (not sure if the Pan Pacific is offered thru Priceline... has not yet been reported here)I doubt you'll see a major revamping of rates as your stay gets closer, as you're already only 2 days away! Hotels have a pretty good idea of their current occupancy levels for the next few weeks and would likely have released discounted inventory already if there were a large number of vacancies.Let us know your thoughts on the above and how you wish to proceed. Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
travelbuddy Posted September 10, 2006 Author Report Posted September 10, 2006 wow. i didn't realize i had a wild loose thread hanging. I ended up staying at the Pan Pacific. And to be honest, I don't remember what I paid as this was over a year ago. But I can attest that the user reviews were right on - that's for sure. wife says 2 thumbs up!
