MamaBear2004 Posted July 13, 2012 Report Posted July 13, 2012 Hi there, hubby and I are planning a trip to NYC for our 10th anniversary. We want to stay in a 4* near Times Square. Thoughts? Suggestions on how to get the best price? We will be arriving on October 13th for 7 nights (October 13 - 20). Was thinking of staying near airport on first and last night but am open to suggestions. Thanks in advance for your help. Great forums!!!
thereuare Posted July 13, 2012 Report Posted July 13, 2012 Welcome to BetterBidding! My advice would be to expand your horizons beyond just the Times Square zone, as explained in this Hotels Near Times Square thread. However, ultimately it's your trip and it's up to you to decide which zones you are/aren't willing to accept.Which airport are you flying in to? What is your expected budget per nite for the NYC nites? (assuming you do decide to stay at the airprort the nite of arrival and the day of departure) Also, do you already have plane tickets, if so, what time do you arrive and what time do you depart? Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. MamaBear2004 Posted July 13, 2012 Author Report Posted July 13, 2012 I'm totally open to suggestions. My husband really wants to stay in Times Square so that he can be in the centre of all the action. My concerns is that we will be in the CENTRE of all the action!! I would prefer to be somewhere reasonably close to TS on transit but a quieter location. We are flying into Newark at 11:30om on October 13th and out at 1:00pm on October 20th. I was toying with the idea of getting a Newark airport hotel on the night of October 13 and October 19th to cut down on the overall cost of our accomodation. I am totally open to suggestions. My expected budget for nightly accom in Manhattan is $200 for a 4*. Am willing to pay a little more to stay at a 4* level. Thanks again for your help. I will be sure to click the Hotwire and PRICELINE links when we are ready to book. This is a great service you offer.
thereuare Posted July 13, 2012 Report Posted July 13, 2012 I think your first step is going to be to decide if you're willing to expand beyond just the Times Square zone or not.To give you a sense of rates, i'm guessing you're likely looking at ~$250-$275 for a 4* hotel in Times Square... about $235-$255 fro a 3.5* property in this zone. For a 4* hotel in Midtown you're likely looking at the ~$225 area... perhaps a little closer to $200 for a 3.5*.I don't think i'd recommend staying by the airport both ends of your trip... NYC is a 24/7 city and you will lose some vacation time by staying at the airport to/from (and there is nothing to do in the immediate area without a car). If you are trying to save on costs i would sooner look towards staying in Jersey City/Hoboken for the first and/or last 2 days, then Manhattan for the dates between... at least you still have easy access to Manhattan on these days as well as restaurants, bars and nightlife in the immediate area (if you decide to 'stay local' for one or two of the nites)Let us know your thoughts and we'll advise further. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.
