okgal Posted July 7, 2012 Report Posted July 7, 2012 Hi, going to NYC 7-19 to 7-22 to visit daughter who is interning there this summer and staying with a friend in Brooklyn. I want to stay in Manhattan, where we will do some touristy stuff, seeing a Broadway show; want to see things like Central Park, Empire State, Grand Central, NY Library. Want something convenient to subway as I am wary of long walks in the heat. Want somewhere with lots of reasonable eateries. Probably going to bid 4 star. Was thinking of Midtown East but was worried that the zone went all the way to the water. Would like spacious as she will stay with me. Any advice on best bidding areas for visit or ones to avoid appreciated!

okgal Posted July 7, 2012 Author Report Posted July 7, 2012 which is better deal:using FF miles get:Marriot Eastside $175Hilton Manhattan East $135Affina Shelbourne $193St Giles $163(all least expensive room)or hotels can get MTE on priceline? Are they nicer hotels than this if 4 star?
thereuare Posted July 8, 2012 Report Posted July 8, 2012 Of the hotels above the Affinia Shelbourne gets the best reviews. However, the question is whether you want to use FF miles for this trip or save them for a more expensive/tougher demand trip. Not sure where the rates above come from, but they're relative inexpensive for NYC. I prefer to save my FF miles for times when rates are higher than this and traveling during peak season and/or specific rate inflated dates. However, it depends how often you travel and what possible destinations you have coming upon the future (and just how many points you have and how quickly you earn them). Bottom line is are you getting good value for each point if using in lieu of spending cash for the trip above. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.
