h.kate Posted July 6, 2012 Report Posted July 6, 2012 I'm planning on staying in new york for this Christmas breakfirst time in new york and need some help finding a good dealRating: 3.5* - 4* (although 3* is okay as well if we can't find one within our budget for higher *s)Dates: 12/21/2012 - 12/25/2012Zones: somewhere that is subway accessible. I'm thinking...- Downtown Financial district- SoHo & Tribeca- Midtown East- Empire State Building- Times Sq Theater District(where would you recommend staying for first time visitors?)Budget: Hoping for max $120 or less + taxes and feesAny help with bidding will be greatly appreciated! Also, when to start bidding? (I assume it is a bit too early now) Any areas you recommend for first time visitors? Thanks!
thereuare Posted July 6, 2012 Report Posted July 6, 2012 Welcome to BetterBidding! For a first time visitor i would sooner recommend midtown than downtown, so:MTE, MTW, TS, CPS and ESBHowever, this is at the 4* level since at 3.5* there are some issues to be aware of:MTE - some 'known' hotels can be up to a 15 minute walk to the subway... is this acceptable?CPS - has the Hudson Hotel, which while well located, has notoriously small rooms (~140 sq. ft.).. is this acceptable? So you would need to decide of these conditions were acceptable or not. Also, at 3.5* MSG becomes an option.Based upon current rates you could try for a 4* first up to your limit, but i think it may take closer to $140 for a 4* property (not sure if you'd prefer to stretch your budget an extra $20/nite or try for a 3.5*/3* hotel first)Based upon the above let us know your thoughts/questions and we'll take it from there. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. h.kate Posted July 8, 2012 Author Report Posted July 8, 2012 Thanks for the response!15 minute walk to subway would be too far... we would prefer 5 - 10 minute walk.Small rooms are okay as it's only 2 people traveling. We would prefer to stay within the budget of maximum $120, 3 or 3.5* should be sufficient for us.Thanks!
thereuare Posted July 9, 2012 Report Posted July 9, 2012 Did you want to try first for a 4* hotel in the MTE, MTW, TS, CPS or ESB zones up to your limit, then if rejected try for a 3.5* in the MTW, TS, CPS, ESB and/or MSG zones up to your limit (those are the zones i would recommend trying first at the 3.5* level)... OR is your goal the least expensive 3.5* hotel for this stay. Please confirm which route you'd like to try first and we'll advise accordingly. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. h.kate Posted July 9, 2012 Author Report Posted July 9, 2012 I would like to try for a 4* hotel up to $120 in MTE, MTW, TS, CPS or ESB zones. Then if I'm rejected I'll try it for a 3.5* in MTW, TS, CPS, ESB or MSG. If I get lucky and find a 4* hotel within the limit, that would be sweet! But if not, willing to go down to 3.5* within the limit. Thanks!
