papertigerx Posted July 5, 2012 Report Posted July 5, 2012 I've never used Priceline, but I've been reading the forum a bit and understand the basics of the re-bidding strategy and using other zones. I'd like to get some advice on a bidding strategy. (i.e. how much should I be bidding?)Travelling to Chicago 7/26 to 7/301 room double occupancy. Millenium Park/Loop & Grant Park Area and North Michigan - River North Area. Preferably 4* but I think 3.5* or even 3* would be ok too. Not sure what is realistic but I'm aiming for $100 a night.
Dark Genesis Posted July 6, 2012 Report Posted July 6, 2012 Well, I can't promise you anything, but I just got won a bid of $55 for July 20th staying at the Hyatt Regency Chicago. I also saw someone else get a similar price for a weekend in August. So I would say start at $55 4-star with the Millenium Loop then go up to $60 adding River North if that fails. You may have to go a little higher because you have Thursday in there and business people may be competing with you. Otherwise, if those initial bids fail, try again the next day starting at $65 for just the Millenium Loop area again.
Jeff S Posted July 6, 2012 Report Posted July 6, 2012 Here is a possible bid strategy:Select 4 Star and begin with Millenium Park, Loop & Grant Park Area @ $52Add Midway Airport North @ $54 - Free Bid AreaAdd Franklin Park Area @ $56 - Free Bid AreaAdd Hyde Park @ $58 - Free Bid AreaAdd Skokie-Niles-Evanston @ $60 - Free Bid AreaAdd Midway Airport Area @ $62 - Free Bid AreaAdd Lincoln Park @ $64 - Free Bid AreaIf that does not get you a hotel then I would start over in 24 hours and possibly add a couple dollars to each of the levels above. As of today, this is the highest available star levels for each Chicago area:Greater Chicago - 4Millennium Park, Loop & Grant Park Area - 4North Michigan Ave - River North Area - 4O'Hare Airport (ORD) North - 4O'Hare Airport (ORD) South - 4Lincoln Park - 3.5Midway Airport Area (MDW) - 3.5Skokie - Niles - Evanston - 3Hyde Park - 2Franklin Park Area - 1Midway Airport North - 1
thereuare Posted July 7, 2012 Report Posted July 7, 2012 I don't think either of the strategies presented above will be enough for these dates, in fact, the Hyatt is sold-out for your dates (doesn't mean that you can't win the Hyatt, but the odds go down substantially). Is your goal to first try for a 4* hotel up to your limit and if that is rejected then try for a 3.5* up to your limit (and then 3* if that too is rejected??). If so...At the 4* level you have SIX re-bid zones. papertigerx Posted April 29, 2014 Author Report Posted April 29, 2014 My apologies! I just started bidding on Chicago hotels again and realized I never reported my win. We were very happy with the hotel, and with the visit to Chicago. :)
