wizofoz Posted June 30, 2012 Report Posted June 30, 2012 Requesting guidance to bid on Manhattan area hotel 7/10-7/13.Max bid:$140 4* (Could do 3.5)Areas: MTW; SoHo; Chelsea; MSG; Downtown/Fin; ESB; MTE; TSWould basically need convenient subway access to explore the city so any guidance in a bidding strategy would be appreciated.Thank you! :)
thereuare Posted June 30, 2012 Report Posted June 30, 2012 Welcome to BetterBidding!Few comments on zones...While most hotels in the Downtown/Financial District will have subway access nearby, it will be a 20-25 minute trip to midtown. If most of your exploring of the city will be in midtown, is this convenient enough for your needs? (although i'll add that at current rates this zone may offer your best chance at a 4* hotel within your $140 budget)Let us know your thoughts and how you'd like to proceed and we'll take it from there. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. wizofoz Posted June 30, 2012 Author Report Posted June 30, 2012 Thank you so much for the quick response! Somewhere in Midtown sounds more convenient, butwe don't mind the subway rides. If you think Downtown/Financial is our best bet, that would be fine.Truly appreciate the guidance :)
thereuare Posted June 30, 2012 Report Posted June 30, 2012 If you think Downtown/Financial is our best bet, that would be fine.It depends how you define 'best bet'... in terms of convenience, it's probably not your best bet; in terms of price it may be. My previous comment was more in terms of convenience, but as you seem to not mind the location, we'll include Downtown along with the other midtown zones and bid so that PRICELINE gives you the least expensive 4* hotel in any of the acceptable zones.Your acceptable zones:MTW; SoHo; Chelsea; MSG; Downtown/Fin; ESB; MTE; TSThere is currently no 4* bidding offered in the MSG zone so we won't include that in a bidding strategy. At the 4* level you have SEVEN re-bid zones. If you're not familiar with re-bidding please read Priceline Re-Bidding Explained and feel free to ask questions and/or confirm your re-bid zones with the board before proceeding.Select 4* MTW, SoHo, Chelsea, DT, ESB, MTE...Bid $90, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $95, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $100, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $105, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $110, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $115, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $118, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $120, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINESelect 4* TS...Bid $90, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $95, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $100, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $105, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $110, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $115, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $118, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $120, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINESelect 4* MTW, SoHo, Chelsea, DT, ESB, MTE, TS...Bid $123, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $125, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $128, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $130, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $133, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $135, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $138, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $140Any questions feel free to ask. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Good luck and let us know how it goes. wizofoz Posted July 2, 2012 Author Report Posted July 2, 2012 No luck with the above...If I go up to $150 @ 4* would I better my chances? We are also willing to bid 3.5*...If you could offer more guidance, that would be appreciated! :)
thereuare Posted July 2, 2012 Report Posted July 2, 2012 Rates are a little higher than they were just 2 days ago and at the moment a 3.5* (or 4*) at $150 or under may be tough... do you want to try for a 4* up to $150 first OR prefer a lower priced (if available) 3.5* property? Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Let us know how you'd like to proceed and we'll advise accordingly. thereuare Posted July 2, 2012 Report Posted July 2, 2012 If you want to try a 3.5* property up to $150 note the following:When bidding 3.5* and lower...MTE - some 'known' hotels can be up to a 15 minute walk to the subway... is this acceptable?CPS - has the Hudson Hotel, which while well located, has notoriously small rooms (~140 sq. ft.).. is this acceptable?Let us know if either/both of these are acceptable and we'll take it from there. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.
