Snug Posted July 3, 2012 Report Posted July 3, 2012 I'm trying to bid for a hotel for July 16-19 in Boston. The Priceline areas that I would like to stick with are (in order of preference):2. Boston Common1. Beacon Hill12. Quincy Market8. Copley SquareI've attempted to book 4* hotels in these areas with some understanding of the Re-bidding process (I've tried combinations of Boston Common @ 135; Boston Common + Brighton @ 140, etc up to Boston Common + Brighton + Fenway Park + Medford + North Cambridge @ 155). I've searched some of the other posts, and it seems like I'm not doing something right. Is there anyone who could suggest the best "plan" to bid for this? My max bid that I would be comfortable with is $190.Any help would be greatly appreciated!
thereuare Posted July 4, 2012 Report Posted July 4, 2012 Welcome to BetterBidding!I don't think you're doing anything wrong, but rather you've hit some expensive dates in Boston. If you want to try bidding up to your limit you can try as follows:When bidding 4* in Boston you have FIVE re-bid zones. Snug Posted July 5, 2012 Author Report Posted July 5, 2012 Thanks for the response! I've tried bidding as outlined, and no luck. Maybe my limit of $190 is conservative???I've booked a backup at Ramada Boston for $127/night, but obviously if I could stay closer to the downtown area, and get a 4*, that would have been nice. I guess this trip was poor timing on my part (at least when it comes to hotel deals).
thereuare Posted July 5, 2012 Report Posted July 5, 2012 You might be successful for a 4* in the $210-$225 area... would you be willing increase your budget to $225 (or some other amount)? Other options include waiting it out and hoping for lower prices in the next 2 weeks, SPLITTING YOUR PRICELINE BID, lower your star rating.Your thoughts? Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. Snug Posted July 5, 2012 Author Report Posted July 5, 2012 I think anything over $200 would be really pushing my budget. I would rather not split my bid; I don't want to risk having to switch hotels during my stay.If I were to go with a 3* hotel (max of $160) in the same areas, would this mean that I only have 1 re-bid zone? I don't mind waiting it out for a 4* either.
thereuare Posted July 6, 2012 Report Posted July 6, 2012 If I were to go with a 3* hotel (max of $160) in the same areas, would this mean that I only have 1 re-bid zone?At this time, yes, only one re-bid zone when bidding 3* in Boston.I don't mind waiting it out for a 4* either.Keep us updated on your progress and whatever you end up doing for this trip. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. Snug Posted July 24, 2012 Author Report Posted July 24, 2012 Update:I didn't have any luck with Hotwire or Priceline that were within my budget restraints. I ended up going with my backup hotel (Ramada Boston @ $127/night) and it ended up being fine.
