Priceline Hotel: Wailea & Kaanapali Feb 2013

I am looking for a beachfront 'resort' or condo one Wailea (Feb 1-8) and Kaanapali (Feb 8 - 18). What would you recommend I start my bidding at on Priceline? Is it better to start my bidding now, or closer to the departure date?

Our Wailea budget per night is $200 (or $160 before tax, fees, and possible resort fees and parking). I see two options on Hotwire for this time period, but both say 'near' beach and we would prefer beachfront with pool.

I am ready to bid on Priceline. BUT my wants are beachfront, on the boardwalk or very close, pool.

Is it realistic that $160 will get this? Do I bid at the 'resort' level? Of will 4* also get my wants?

When bidding on PRICELINE there is no guarantee of a Beachfront property... the hotel you receive could be anywhere in the zone(s) that you choose. PRICELINE does state that:

Resorts in coastal areas will also feature beachfront access.

... so it would seem reasonable that a Resort property is on the beach... but no such designation for 4* so that will not ensure you the beachfront location you're seeking.

If you'd like help with the HOTWIRE property above please change the currency drop down menu on the top right of HOTWIRE's page to US Dollars (and if applicable the country to United States). Then continue to search HOTWIRE and post to the board in US Dollars so that rates are consistent and not subject to interpretation due to future currency fluctuation. Once you're ready to purchase simply change the drop down menu to whatever currency you'd like to use and complete your purchase.

Just tried bidding through this site (link to PRICELINE)for:

1. 'resort' Wailea Feb 1-8 @ 147/night

2. changed dates to Feb 1-7

3. changed dates to feb 1-9

all unsuccessful

then tried:

4. 'resort' Wailea & Kihei Feb 1-8 @ $147 = unsuccessful

Was going to add Kahului, but wanted to confirm that there were no resorts in this zone?

Also was going to add 4* but need to doble check possible properties in this category.

Will try again in 24hours.

Tried again up to $162. No luck.

What range of price do you think would win this?

There are currently no Resort (or higher) rated hotels in Kahului so that is a valid re-bid zone when bidding for a Resort property in Maui. HOWEVER, new hotels are added to the system frequently, and other hotels are upgraded/downgraded often, that you need to know how to check your re-bid zones on your own and confirm them before every bidding session to make sure that nothing has changed since you last checked.

Currently i think you're likely looking at over $200+ for a Resort for these dates.

It's still early and i wouldn't bid more than 1-2 times per week at this point in time... you'll likely just get frustrated and that's when bidding mistakes are usually made (or you decide to make a rush decision and change one of the bidding parameters that you may not have been willing to do until closer to your stay)
