Priceline Hotel: Boston Back Bay - Downtown

Hi all,

I've been a long-time lurker on these forums and have used it for a number of great priceline wins (particularly Vegas :)). However, I've been having some trouble with my Boston bidding for September. I'm looking to go from 9/14 - 9/16 and it'll be my first trip to Boston so I'd like somewhere centrally located near the T-line. Originally I was looking at Quincy Market/Financial District to Theater District, but have since expanded to the Back Bay/Copley area due to the high reviews for the hotels in that area as well. I was originally hoping to snag a nice hotel for around $120-$130, but am beginning to think I'll have to ditch that idea or lower my hotel requirements.

I started bidding at around $110 for a 4* hotel in the following areas: Quincy Market/Financial District, Boston Common/Theater District, Boston Harborfront/Aquarium, Back Bay/Copley Square. However, I've made a ton of bids since and have ended up maxing out at $150 for 3.5* for those areas with no luck. I've also tried 3* Back Bay/Copley up to $150 (also like the Courtyard hotel in that area) but similarly no luck. Looking at Hotwire, it appears that the 3.5* Hilton Back Bay is at $164 and 3* Courtyard at $166, so I was surprised when I didn't get either those all the way up to $150 on priceline. I figure that I'm so far out, I'll continue to keep low-balling hoping that maybe the inventory on priceline will increase and perhaps push prices down. I'm not sure that's the case though. Any tips or suggestions? and I'm definitely using the priceline/HOTWIRE links provided here :).

Thanks,

Tyler

We're glad to hear the board has been helpful to you in the past and you've landed some great deals, it would also be appreciated if you began to share your wins so that the information can help others, just as you have been helped by those who have posted before you. ;)

For it's size Boston is a city with not a lot of hotel rooms.. when nothing is happening in the city rooms are fairly inexpensive, but when there is even just a moderately sized event hotel prices spike dramatically. Nobody can say if rates will drop in the weeks ahead, of if they'll continue higher... what is the best fully refundable rate you're currently able to find at an acceptable hotel for these dates?

Thanks for using the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board.

yes, I'll do a better job of posting my wins.

Looks like the best refundable is $200 (w/o tax) at 3.5* hilton back bay. As you mentioned it feels like there must be something in town...or its just a weekend of a popular travel month for Boston maybe? If I'm not able to see any improvements with the bidding/hotwire I'll probably book the refundable as a backup and hope for something to drop :).

I do see a few conventions on these dates but really can't get a feel for their size, but as noted, even just a small change in demand can have a big change in hotel rates for Boston.
