aackerm Posted July 2, 2012 Report Posted July 2, 2012 The wife and I are traveling up to NY for our summer vacation and are really wanting to get some sort of deal through Priceline. The ideal situation would to get a 4* hotel in the Midtown East are for around $140-$170 or a 3.5* hotel in the MSG area for around $120-$150. After reading these boards Ive made several bids for the ME area using rebid zones that dont offer 4* hotels with no luck and the same with the 3.5*in MSG. Are these price ranges just too low or am I still too far out to bid in such price ranges. Any help would be appreciated.

thereuare Posted July 3, 2012 Report Posted July 3, 2012 I think the problem is two-fold...At current rates your bids aren't enough and you're being very restrictive in your zone selection... if you're looking for the lowest prices you should give more hotels the opportunity to accept your bid. For your MSG bidding, of the 'known' hotels in the zone rated 3.5*, you're basically only giving one hotel the opportunity to accept your bid price. If you're willing to expand to other nearby midtown zones, i think your current budget is about $20-$30 too low at each star rating.Let us know your thoughts if you'd like to raise your bid, lower your star rating, and/or include other nearby zones... OR if you want to wait it out and hope for lower prices in the next 10 days. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. aackerm Posted July 3, 2012 Author Report Posted July 3, 2012 I think expanding the 4* area is something we will do so any strategies would be appreciated, but I dont think we will go over the $180 mark. We currently have a good hotel booked at a decent price for our backup and it doesnt make sense to cancel it unless we get a really good deal on PRICELINE or HOTWIRE. Thanks for all the help and assistance.
thereuare Posted July 3, 2012 Report Posted July 3, 2012 Where and how much is your back-up reservation? At the 4* level which zone(s) are acceptable? MTE, MTW. aackerm Posted July 3, 2012 Author Report Posted July 3, 2012 Got it all booked. After looking at my backup, Affinnia Shelburne, I noticed my rates for the 14th and 15th were $154 and the 16th and 17th were $289 and $349. We figured we werent going to do much better then $154 so we kept those two nights and then I bid on PRICELINE for the other two. Here is my bid:7/16-7/18 MTE, CPS, ESB, Downtown $140 - Decline (offered to rebid at $185, I declined)Add re-bid zone $165 - Accepted Hilton Millennium
AaronJB Posted July 4, 2012 Report Posted July 4, 2012 Congrats on your success. :)Superb deal for this Hilton property!
