rutgersunion Posted June 28, 2012 Report Posted June 28, 2012 Just tried bidding on Priceline $100$105$110$115$120Am I not being realistic with my bidding?I do not want to try 3 1/2* because I have a feeling I will end up in the one hotel I dont want based on Hotwire (Crown Plaza).Any suggestions?
AaronJB Posted June 28, 2012 Report Posted June 28, 2012 Welcome to Betterbidding. :)Rates are definitely on the higher side for the holiday period - what would be your desired max bid per night at the 4* level?Thank you for using the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
rutgersunion Posted June 28, 2012 Author Report Posted June 28, 2012 I would like to keep in under $150 a night.
thereuare Posted June 28, 2012 Report Posted June 28, 2012 Two comments:First, the Marriott Gateway on the Falls is available for your dates for $162/nite and it's fully refundable until 6PM EST tomorrow (confirm refund policy during check-out) which will at least give you something near your budget while you re-try over the next 24 hours.Second, is SPLITTING YOUR PRICELINE BID an option? The first two nites of your stay are not the issue, it's more likely a jump in rates for the nite of the July 4th... are you willing to change hotels for the last nite of your trip? (and maybe even stay somewhere outside of the immediate area??)Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. rutgersunion Posted June 28, 2012 Author Report Posted June 28, 2012 I might as well do the 162 rate but I expected to get something at PRICELINE a little lower.I dont mind switching hotels but I would prefer not to leave the area. Thanks for your help.
thereuare Posted June 29, 2012 Report Posted June 29, 2012 The 'problem' is that the nite of 7/4 is so expensive...Earlier today HOTWIRE showed a 4* hotel for 7/2-7/4 for $120 (if i recall correctly) but unfortunately it is no longer offered at the moment. But let's for a moment assume it is and continue...HOTWIRE also has a 4* hotel for 7/4-7/5 for $216/nite.Assuming these are all 4* rated on PRICELINE, this would give you an average nightly rate of $152/nite... which raises the question if the 'unknown' of an opaque purchase, and the likelihood of having to change hotels, is worth the $10/savings vs. the Marriott Gateway for $162/nite.You could book the Sheraton on the Falls for $134/nite (non-refundable)... then for the last nite go with the HOTWIRE offer above, or the Doubletree for $233/nite (you have to scroll down to see this rate), Sheraton at the Falls (different then the Sheraton on the Falls above) for $189/nite, or the Radisson for $193/nite to offer some suggestions.Let us know your thoughts and we'll take it from there. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. (or the links above if you book any of the non-opaque options) Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
