coreytime Posted June 27, 2012 Report Posted June 27, 2012 Hi, I am planning to visit NYC from Sept 1-6 (5 nights). I am looking a booking a 3.5 star or higher room in any major areas around lower Manhattan (TS, MTE,MTW, MSG) my target is $140/night, my budget is slightly higher. The Times Square area is definitely nice but other areas will also ok. This is my first time in NYCAny help with a strategy or suggestion would be appreciated,Corey
thereuare Posted June 27, 2012 Report Posted June 27, 2012 Welcome to BetterBidding!I am looking a booking a 3.5 star or higher room in any major areas around lower Manhattan (TS, MTE,MTW, MSG)...These zones are mostly midtown, not lower Manhattan, is it midtown that you're looking for? Is Downtown acceptable too? (usually a little cheaper than midtown but also a little less convenient, although still do-able)...my target is $140/night, my budget is slightly higher.I haven't looked yet (waiting your zone confirmation) but your stay is during the US Open so your budget may be a little tough. Also, note that when bidding 3.5* and lower, MTE has some 'known' hotels can be up to a 15 minute walk to the subway... is this acceptable?Let us know the information above and we'll take it from there. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. coreytime Posted June 28, 2012 Author Report Posted June 28, 2012 I just want something close to time square..ive never been but doubt downtown is acceptable...... I don't mind subways but do not want a 15 min walk..... thanks for your help
thereuare Posted June 28, 2012 Report Posted June 28, 2012 Based upon current rates i'm doubtful that your $140 budget will be enough for a 4* hotel, did you want to try this first anyway OR do you want to least expensive 3.5* or better hotel for this trip?If starting with 3.5*, please look at the zone maps and confirm if all of the following zones are acceptable:MTW, TS, ESB, MSG, Chelsea... also CPS is typically well located, but at the 3.5* level it contains the Hudson Hotel which has notoriously small rooms (~140 sq. ft.), would this be an acceptable property? Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. coreytime Posted June 29, 2012 Author Report Posted June 29, 2012 All those zones will work... is MTE the only one with the 15 minute subway hike? I do not want to get in a 140 sq foot room.... I guess my budget could increase to $165 for a 4*.... Thanks so much for the help.... i would prefer to start with 4* and then go down to 3.5
thereuare Posted June 29, 2012 Report Posted June 29, 2012 We'll start with the 4* level up to $165 and if not successful take it from there. At the 4* level i'm assuming all of these zones are acceptable:MTE, MTW, CPS, TS, ESB(no known room size or distance issues with any of the known 4* hotels in these zones)When bidding 4* in NYC you have SEVEN re-bid zones. If you're not familiar with re-bidding please read Priceline Re-Bidding Explained and feel free to ask questions and/or confirm your re-bid zones with the board before proceeding.Select 4* MTE, MTW, TS, ESB...Bid $110, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $115, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $120, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $125, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $130, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $135, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $140, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $145, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINESelect 4* CPS...Bid $110, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $115, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $120, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $125, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $130, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $135, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $140, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $145, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINESelect 4* MTE, MTW, CPS, TS, ESB...Bid $148, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $150, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $153, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $155, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $158, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $160, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $163, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $165Any questions feel free to ask. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Good luck and let us know how it goes. thereuare Posted June 30, 2012 Report Posted June 30, 2012 Sorry to hear your bids were rejected. When bidding 3.5* and lower in NYC:MTE - some 'known' hotels can be up to a 15 minute walk to the subway... is this acceptable?CPS - has the Hudson Hotel, which while well located, has notoriously small rooms (~140 sq. ft.).. is this acceptable? What do you want to do about the two zones above, should we include/exclude them in a bidding strategy? Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. thereuare Posted June 30, 2012 Report Posted June 30, 2012 Based upon current rates I don't think $150 will likely be enough, but to confirm:3.5* with a maximum bid of $150 in either the MTW, TS, ESB, or MSG zones. If correct:At the 3.5* level in NYC you have SIX re-bid zones. If you're not familiar with re-bidding please read Priceline Re-Bidding Explained and feel free to ask questions and/or confirm your re-bid zones with the board before proceeding.Select 3.5* MTW, ESB, MSG...Bid $110, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $115, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $120, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $125, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $128, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $130, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $133, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINESelect 3.5* TS...Bid $110, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $115, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $120, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $125, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $128, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $130, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $133, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINESelect 3.5* MTW, TS, ESB, MSG...Bid $135, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $138, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $140, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $143, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $145, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $148, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $150Any questions feel free to ask. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Good luck and let us now how it goes. coreytime Posted June 30, 2012 Author Report Posted June 30, 2012 Having ZERO luck..... can you help with 3*? I do not want to go over $150.... am I toast? I just want convenient access to a subway and no small rooms... :) The closer to Time Square the better!
thereuare Posted July 1, 2012 Report Posted July 1, 2012 Before lowing to 3*... is SPLITTING YOUR PRICELINE BID an option? You may be able to get a 3.5* or 4* hotel for the first 2 or 3 nites of your stay in midtown... then for the remaining 2/3 nites get a 3* hotel OR a higher rated hotel Downtown.Let us know your thoughts and we'll take it from there. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. coreytime Posted July 12, 2012 Author Report Posted July 12, 2012 I won the Kitano New York Hotel for $175/Night. It's a 4*....Seems like a good deal?!?!?
thereuare Posted July 12, 2012 Report Posted July 12, 2012 Congratulations on your success! An excellent deal for this well reviewed property.Couple suggestions in the area:Jackson Hole Wyoming (Third Ave at 35th St) - one of the best HUGE burgers in the city. It's a diner-style place so nothing fancy, and service can be hit or miss, but the burgers are GREAT.Rio Grande (Third Ave at 37th St... look at the base of the apartment building on the west side of the street) - frozen margaritas here are small and expensive (for the size) but they're VERY STRONG and delicious. Eat dinner elsewhere, but to get some chips and homemade salsa while drinking at the bar.Thank you for sharing your win with the board.
