Confused about Hotwire!?

Hi there,

I am just really confused about how exactly Hotwire works. I get Priceline - bidding, easier said than done.

But I'm seeing that Hotwire has set prices for locations.

For example, I am looking at 4* San Diego Gaslamp North or South.

I get prices for $99 and $115.

Will that be the full amount that I end up paying (not including taxes, etc)?

Because I am confused how people are "bidding" on Hotwire for the same number of stars and location, but then they are ending up with prices like $104 and $113.

Will there be another chance for me to change or pick my amount?

Or are they getting different prices to choose from because they are not picking the same dates?

I also read somewhere that after you approve the price on Hotwire, you THEN get to choose your hotel? Is that true or do they choose it for you?

CONFUSED!

Thanks so much for any and all help.

Best,

Sara

Welcome to Betterbidding.

HOTWIRE is different from PRICELINE in that it does not offer bidding - it offers a series of listings that show price, star rating, amenities and zone. The higher price is an average of comparable properties in the area, while the lower price is the HOTWIRE per night cost before taxes/fees.

After making the purchase, you are told the name of the hotel. Like PRICELINE, you do not know the name of the hotel until after purchase and after purchase, the reservation cannot be changed/refunded. Taxes/fees are shown during the check-out process.

If you would like assistance IDing a listing, please provide the complete details of the listing - star rating, zone, city, price and the complete list of amenities showing with the listing.

Thank you for using the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
