Priceline Hotel: 2.5* Boston (Copley Square - Back Bay) Hotel 140

Hi everybody!

We're going to Boston October 21st to 24th and are hoping to get a cheaper hotel via Priceline - prices are extraordinary this time of the year. Hope you can help.

Booked back-up: Best Western Plus Roundhouse Suites South Boston, Total cost incl. taxes and fees: 614 $

Are willing to pay maximum 180 $ all incl. per night, but for an area more central.

3.5* would be great, but 2.5* is certainly well enough (The Back Up Best Western is 2.5* right?) - main goal is to find something cheaper and more central.

Preferred areas: Boston Common, Boston Harbor Front, Quincy Market, Beacon Hill, Back Bay, maybe Convention Centre

Already tried many times during the last weeks but never got lucky ...

What would be your bidding strategy?

Thanks a lot!

I use the PRICELINE links of course!

OMG, don't really remember my bids, I tried so many times ... but never bid more than 130$ for a 2.5* hotel in all the areas posted above. Tried 3.5* up to 145 I think, all areas posted ...

It's my first time trying to get a hotel via Priceline, so I read a lot on the forums and just tried. No real strategy.

Is a better location not worth any more to you than the price of your back-up location? For example, HOTWIRE has a 3* hotel in the Back Bay-Copley zone with:

Smoke Free

Fitness

Business

Laundry

Hi-Speed Internet

Free Internet

Room Accessible

Bathroom Accessible

For $172/nite, which is cheaper than your $180 goal but not on an all-in basis.

Best guess for this property would be the Hotel 140.

Any interest in this HOTWIRE offer? Of if you prefer to bid higher than you already have on PRICELINE, what do you want to do first... bid for a 3.5* up to your limit, then if rejected try for a 3* up to your limit, and if rejected try for a 2.5* up to your limit OR try for the least expensive 2.5* or better for this trip? What is your maximum bid amount (before taxes and fees)?

Thanks for using the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board.

Hi!

I saw that Hotwire offer but the board here wasn't sure which property it is, so I didn't book ...

Anyway, I think 172 plus taxes is pretty much for a hotel, but maybe I'm too European in prices, I know Boston is expensive. That's why we were hoping on Priceline, to save money. We don't want to pay more than the backup hotel (which was our absolute maximum) but would like to be more central for the same price.

I would be happy with the least expensive 2.5* - maximum bid amount before taxes and fees would be 150$.

Any bidding suggestions on that?

Should we include Convention Center in any bidding strategy or not?

We don't want to pay more than the backup hotel (which was our absolute maximum) but would like to be more central for the same price.

Understood, but there is also likely a 'price for convenience' that you need to include in the calculation as well. For example, for $1 more you'd likely take the more central location, perhaps for $5, $10 or even $20 more total you would too.. but probably not for $100 more in total over this 3 nite stay. So there is a number, using the example above between $1-$100 where you would pay a little more than your back-up in order to be in a more central location. ;)

I would be happy with the least expensive 2.5* - maximum bid amount before taxes and fees would be 150$.

Let us know if we should include the Convention Center zone in the bidding and we'll advise accordingly.

Yes, you can include it.

For a start I would like NOT to bid more than the suggested 150$ + tax and fees a night. If we're still not lucky, I might think about more money for convenience ;-). Bit we still got plenty of tome to try, right ...? Might even be too early for Priceline.

At the 3.5* level you have FIVE re-bid zones, at the 3* and 2.5* levels you have ONE re-bid zone. If you're not familiar with re-bidding please read Priceline Re-Bidding Explained and feel free to ask questions and/or confirm your re-bid zones with the board before proceeding.

OMG, I was already giving up after I worked through the whole list and was at my last try at 2.5* - so I thought, "come on, give it a try and add 5 dollars more" (as you already said, convenience dollars...):

And I got the Hotel 140 in Back Bay for 155$ a night!!!!

Ok, it's not really CHEAP, but I think for the busy time of October, it's a really good price (rate on hotel's homepage would be 219+tax = 751$ for 3 nights all in)

Summary of Charges

Room Cost (avg. per room, per night): $155.00 (USD)

Number of Rooms: 1

Number of Guests Per Room: 2

Number of Nights: 3

Room Subtotal: $465.00 (USD)

Taxes and Fees: $80.67 (USD)

Total Room Cost: $545.67 (USD)

Hotel looks good an I love the location - we now saved 70$ compared to the Back Up Hotel but got a much better location - thanks to this board!!! Thanks a lot for your help!

Congratulations on your success!

While perhaps more than you originally thought you would need to pay, glad to see you were able to upgrade the location of your hotel for just a few dollars more thank your backup reservation... should make for a much nicer overall trip experience.

Thank you for sharing your win with the board and helping us add this property to the Priceline Hotel List.

It was even cheaper than the Back Up Hotel - saved 70$ overall compared to the hotel outside of the city ... And the location of the Hotel 140 is great!!! Although reviews don't sound so perfect, the location is the best argument for the hotel.
