Latitudes Posted July 23, 2005 Report Posted July 23, 2005 I'm hoping to get a 5* in the Sukhumvit Road area. Here is my bid history so far:5* Sukhumvit $55 - Rejected+ Siam Square $60 - RejectedI'll wait the 72 hours and try again.
zzdocxx Posted July 24, 2005 Report Posted July 24, 2005 Thanks, that is great info.I haven't bid yet, I am trying to get a little more information on some alternatives before taking the plunge, as I mentioned on my thread asking for bid strategy.
edyvr Posted July 24, 2005 Report Posted July 24, 2005 Well, hotels in Sub and Siam Square areas have not come up that low for a long long time. You might have better luck start at $69 and move up.
LHFlyer Posted July 25, 2005 Report Posted July 25, 2005 Try $80 and up and you'll have a chance for Sukhumvit. It takes likely $100 and up for SS and RS zones. The days of $55 for Sukhumvit are long gone. :)
Latitudes Posted July 29, 2005 Author Report Posted July 29, 2005 Update:5* Sukhumvit $65 - Rejected- one night $70 - Rejected+ Siam Square $75 - RejectedI nearly added Silom in the hope of getting the Shangri-La. I didn't because I hear that the Banyan Tree is no so nice, so I've avoided bidding in this zone.
Chris26WI Posted July 29, 2005 Report Posted July 29, 2005 Banyan Tree is still a very nice hotel... usually because it's an all suites hotel, and the view from the suites is just great. But it's not very likely that you will end up with the Banyan Tree. So don't worry for Silom. (Though the Shangri La has the better location, I would in any case be happy if I got the Banyan Tree instead of the Shangri La in RS.... because the "standard suite" of the BT is in any case much better than a standard room (PL) at the Sha-La! )
zzdocxx Posted August 1, 2005 Report Posted August 1, 2005 Could someone help clarify something for me?I was about to put in my bid for 5* Sukhumvit, then I noticed that the taxes as estimated by Priceline come to around $16/nite.The reason this is significant for me is that my alternative is "Majestic Grande", a newer 4* hotel in the same area, which I can book for ~$70/nite, BUT that figure already includes taxes. So to really get an apt comparison, it seems like I should compare 1. MG @ $70/nite 2. JWM ~83 + 17 = ~$90/nite. Of course one property is 4* and the other 5* in terms of comparing the two.Am I making any sense? Sorry if it seems like a dumb question, but this is my first experience with Priceline! Thanks for your help!
Chris26WI Posted August 1, 2005 Report Posted August 1, 2005 Yeah, you're right.. your calculations seem to be right. The Majestic Grande is just next to JW Marriott and looks nice. Maybe worth a try. For Sukhumvit you cannot be sure to get the JW by the way, the Westin or the SGS might be possibilities too.
Latitudes Posted August 2, 2005 Author Report Posted August 2, 2005 Update:5* Sukhumvit $77 - Rejected+ Siam Square $80 - Rejected+ Riverside -Silom $82 - RejectedCrikey! I hope I'm getting close, otherwise I'll drop to a 4* for about $50. :)
