godluck99 Posted June 15, 2012 Report Posted June 15, 2012 HiI'm looking to book a 4 star plus hotel in New york for 4 nights from 12 September to the 16th. I've been bidding up to $180 a night but without luck. Do I need to increase my budget or is there a chance that I can win something at this price. I'm happy to stay in Soho/Tribeca, Midtown East and West, chelsea, Hells Kitchen, Central Park South and Empire state areas. I don't want downtown or any of the areas that don't have 4 star hotels. Can you suggest a bidding plan? Thanks
AaronJB Posted June 16, 2012 Report Posted June 16, 2012 Welcome to Betterbidding! :)Congrats on your honeymoon. Unfortunately, September through Mid-December is one of the busiest times of the year in NYC, and hotels can be quite expensive throughout much of this time. What would be your desired max bid per night?Thank you for using the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
godluck99 Posted June 16, 2012 Author Report Posted June 16, 2012 Hi and thanks for your reply. I was hoping to keep my budget to upto $200, but I can and will pay up to $300. If I have to pay more than that I'd prefer to choose my hotel specifically. Last May I went to NYC and won the Sheraton Tribeca. Back then it was 3.5 star and whilst I enjoyed the stay and thought the staff were great, I'm worried that the fact it is now a 4 star means I just got lucky and that 3.5 stars may actually be below that standard.
thereuare Posted June 16, 2012 Report Posted June 16, 2012 To confirm, you have already bid for a 4* up to $180 in all these zones:Soho, MTE, MTW, Chelsea, HK, CPS, ESBI see you haven't included TS in your bidding, is this a zone you're trying to avoid? You also mention "I don't want... any of the areas that don't have 4 star hotels." Are you familiar with re-bidding and using your re-bid zones? (see re.bi, and if you're new to the concept it's highly recommended that you ask questions and/or confirm your re-bid zones with the board before bidding)Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Let us know the above and we'll take it from there.PS- congratulations on your upcoming nuptials Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
godluck99 Posted June 17, 2012 Author Report Posted June 17, 2012 Thanks for the congrats.I'd be happy to include Times Square in my bidding and have been, unfortunately I forgot it when trying to remember all the zones with my fading memory.I am also vaguely familiar with re-bidding using zones with a maximum star level lower than the 4 star that I'm after. I've tried it a few times but I do panic about getting it wrong.
thereuare Posted June 17, 2012 Report Posted June 17, 2012 When bidding 4* in NYC you have SEVEN re-bid zones. Using the technique at Priceline Re-Bidding Explained, are you able to identify, and would be comfortable using, your SEVEN re-bid zones. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.
