Priceline Hotel: Want Sukhumvit BKK 5*, strategy?

Hi everybody, thanks for all the helpful information. My friend Scandalous steered me to this website, this is my first ever post.

OK, What I would like is a 5* hotel in Sukhumvit Sept 15th through 18th, and also Sept 20th.

I checked the Priceline map as suggested, the other two areas in BKK also have 5* properties, so that strategy won't work, ie. changing locations on a subsequent bid.

Just thought I would see if anyone had any other suggestions about how to proceed.

Should I start at $55, or might that be a waste of time? It looks like recent winning bids have been around $82USD, but that is not in September.

I hear there are some other decent places in that area which have reasonable rates on the net, if I could find some ratings on those properties then I would consider staying there. For example, I think someone mentioned to me Royal President Executive Serviced Apartments (rate $47 and up).

Hope my first post here seems reasonable. I have tried to research the threads and yet I find it a bit overwhelming on my first go-round.

Thanks! :)

Welcome to BetterBidding!

We'll use this thread for your 9/15-9/18 stay and please start a NEW THREAD for your 9/20 stay (we keep them different since strategies may differ for each date depending upon hotel-direct prices, as well, you could win a different hotel and keeping them separate enables us to accrurately reflect the ultimate win of each in the topic title)

Rates are low for this stay, as the MARRIOTT has a $95 rate available.

I suspect that it will take $70-$75 to be successful (even with the low direct rates), but given the very low rates for your dates as well as plenty of time before your stay, i would start lower than expected and increase your bid by $5 every 72 hours... up until $75. I would think a good starting point would be $60, but if you're in no hurry and don't mind taking the time to bid this every 3 days then $55 is fine as well.

Any other questions feel free to ask and please keep us updated as to your progress.

Good Luck.

Yeah, I would take sort of the tactics presented by thereuare. You could start lowballing with 60-65$ something.. and might get off with the Westin or SGS.. well, you could use Siam Square 5star almost safely as sort of "free rebid" as the 5star property(ies) there ususally don't go for anything less than 85$ bid... the Shangri La in Riverside/Silom hasn't shown up for quite some time too, and the Banyan Tree is usually also on the high scale for Priceline bids for Bkk.. so in emergency you might add Riverside-Silom too (but no guarantee for that). Good luck and keep us informed!

Thanks for the input.

I don't want you to think I am a loser who doesn't follow up with the info!

But I finally decided to book a room at the 4 star Majestic Grande in the Sukhumvit area. I used their website and got a rate of $70USD, which included all taxes and fees. I figured that after taxes and fees the JW Marriot at $82 would have run me around $100/night. Much as I would have liked to stay there, I was feeling I ought to economize a bit.

OK, maybe next time I will have a chance to contribute something here, this is a great website!
