shaky Posted June 15, 2012 Report Posted June 15, 2012 Hi all, I'm going to be in NY on August 3rd to 6th and am looking for 2 rooms. Any advice on bidding on a 5* in NY? What price point to start at? What I can expect to pay? Has anyone ever had success with a 5* bid on priceline?Looking to stay in MTE, MTW or TS area.I'm more than happy with a 4* but I thought I'd shoot for the stars.I appreciate your help. Thanks, Shaky
thereuare Posted June 15, 2012 Report Posted June 15, 2012 The only zone currently offering 5* bidding in NYC is Times Square where the Chatwal New York City has been reported at this level (there could always be others not yet reported)... but we don't see it won too often as it usually doesn't go that cheaply. What is your expected budget for this trip? How high are you willing to bid for a 5* before lowering to the 4* level? Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases... and please click each of these links before replying.Thanks. shaky Posted June 15, 2012 Author Report Posted June 15, 2012 I was thinking I would go as high as $225 to maybe $250 per night for a 5*. Do you think I'm even in the ballpark? If TS is the only area offering 5* does that mean I can use all other zones are my re-bid zones?Again, I appreciate all your help.Shaky
cpmarkets Posted June 15, 2012 Report Posted June 15, 2012 Hi ShakyI've been putting in some numbers for a five star priceline hotel as well, and I'm still yet to be accepted on $320.I'm supposedly going in a semi low season (August) so I think your bid may be too low. You never know though.
shaky Posted June 15, 2012 Author Report Posted June 15, 2012 Thanks for the info. I don't think I'd be willing to go up to that price point. Maybe I'll just stick to 4* I appreciate the advice.Cheers, shaky
thereuare Posted June 15, 2012 Report Posted June 15, 2012 I've been putting in some numbers for a five star priceline hotel as well, and I'm still yet to be accepted on $320.Can you please follow-up your priceline thread with the failed bid info... i'm sure it may help others who are looking to bid for a 5* hotel around the same time frame. Please also use the requested PRICELINE and HOTWIRE on the board to begin your bidding.I don't think I'd be willing to go up to that price point. Maybe I'll just stick to 4* I appreciate the advice. As noted above "you never know" so it's worth a shot if you want to bid it, but go in with your eyes wide open that your odds of success are fairly low. You're going during August too, so it's possible that rates for your dates are cheaper than those that cpmarkets is bidding for.Let us know how you'd like to proceed and we'll advise accordingly. Thanks for using the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board. shaky Posted June 16, 2012 Author Report Posted June 16, 2012 Quick update...I tried without success bidding for 5* NYC - started at $190 and upped bids to $225, I knew my chances were slim in that price point but I didn't feel the value was there over $225 so I started bidding on 4*.Started 4* bids at $110 and increased bids by $5-$10 using rebid zones. Success at $155. 2 rooms. Dates - August 3 to 6 Hotel - Intercontinental The BarclayThanks for all the help.Cheers, Shaky
thereuare Posted June 16, 2012 Report Posted June 16, 2012 Congratulations on your success! Looks like a nice deal for this property. Hope you're pleased with the purchase and looking forward to your trip. You're also near my often recommended Ess-A-Bagel (Third Ave at 51st St) which has one of the best bagels in the city, makes for a nice, and relatively inexpensive, breakfast among local NYers.Thank you for sharing your win with the board.
