I am going to stay in San Francisco from 8/27/2012 to 8/31/2012 and I dont want to expend too much money on hotels.

How good can I get with a US$ 60-90 budget per day for USE, USW or EMBARCADERO area?

I dont have any problem with a 2.5* hotel, but, of course, a better rating hotel would be great.
