onehaehyuk Posted June 7, 2012 Report Posted June 7, 2012 Hi all, I'm heading to Boston for a short trip on August 4-6th. Just wondering, when is the best time to place a bid to get the best prices? Should I wait until closer to the date or is it better to do it early? I'm thinking of placing a bid for a 4* hotel in Boston Common area. But am flexible, would also consider Quincy Market area or Back Bay. Please help. Thanks in advance!
thereuare Posted June 8, 2012 Report Posted June 8, 2012 As far as when to bid, see the related 'Bid Early or Close to Check-in' link in our PRICELINE FAQ.If/when you're ready to bid let us know your maximum budget (per nite before fees and taxes) as well as if you want to only bid Boston Common up to your limit before including Quincy Market area or Back Bay... or is your goal the least expensive 4* hotel in any of these three zones? Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases... and please click each of these links before replying.Thanks. onehaehyuk Posted June 8, 2012 Author Report Posted June 8, 2012 Thanks for your response. I did take a look at the FAQ section on when to bid. I think I'm ready to bid now (I haven't booked a backup hotel yet but depending on how my first couple attempts go I will likely book a backup one next week.)In any case, I'm looking at a budget of around $150 per night. $175 maximum if that amount is too low. Looking at the hotel list, I'm also willing to book a 3.5* hotels. I'd prefer staying in Boston Common area but if I've exhausted my options there for that price range I'd also be up for staying in Quincy Market or Back Bay areas. Please let me know if you think this sounds reasonable.
thereuare Posted June 9, 2012 Report Posted June 9, 2012 At both the 4* and 3.5* levels you have FIVE re-bid zones. If you're not familiar with re-bidding please read Priceline Re-Bidding Explained and feel free to ask questions and/or confirm your re-bid zones with the board before proceeding.(NOTE: 're-bid zone1' is not the same as priceline's Zone1, 're-bid zone2' is not the same as priceline's Zone2, etc, etc)Select 4* Boston Common...Bid $100, if rejected add re-bid zone1...Bid $105, if rejected add re-bid zone2...Bid $110, if rejected add re-bid zone3...Bid $115, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINESelect 4* Boston Common and re-bid zone4...Bid $120, if rejected add re-bid zone1...Bid $125, if rejected add re-bid zone2...Bid $130, if rejected add re-bid zone3...Bid $135, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINESelect 4* Boston Common and re-bid zone5...Bid $140, if rejected add re-bid zone1...Bid $145, if rejected add re-bid zone2...Bid $150, if rejected add re-bid zone3...Bid $155, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINESelect 4* Boston Common and re-bid zone4 and re-bid zone5...Bid $160, if rejected add re-bid zone1...Bid $165, if rejected add re-bid zone2...Bid $170, if rejected add re-bid zone3...Bid $175Any questions feel free to ask. If the above is rejected close the browser, use this link to re-access PRICELINE, and try again using 3.5*. If that too is rejected (which i think is likely) and you want to begin to add the other zones let us know and we'll revise accordingly. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Good luck and let us know how it goes. onehaehyuk Posted June 14, 2012 Author Report Posted June 14, 2012 Hi, just an update - I've booked a backup hotel and am going to try and see if I can get something cheaper closer to the date of arrival. I went up as high as $180/night for 3* hotels in Boston Common and Back Bay areas and had no success. I've also noticed that prices have been going up over the last few days for the period I'm staying so I'm not sure if i'll have any luck but will post if I have some success.
