noobtraveler Posted June 7, 2012 Report Posted June 7, 2012 Seeking bid strategy for 4* or 5* in TS or CPS for 10/17/2012-10/21/2012. Max $250 for 4* & max $350 for 5*. Doable or need to raise budget? I used this site's PRICELINE link to do my research.Thanks.
thereuare Posted June 7, 2012 Report Posted June 7, 2012 For just those two zones i think you have a shot, but my guess is that you'll fall a little short. If you're willing to accept other nearby zones (MTE, MTW, ESB) i think you would better your chances... and if your budget was $275 (for a 4*) you'd increase your chances even further. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Let us know if/how you'd like to proceed and we'll take it from there. noobtraveler Posted June 7, 2012 Author Report Posted June 7, 2012 Used the board's PRICELINE link to recheck the zones. Unfortunately wife is not willing to budge on the zones, but gave a green light to bumping up the budget to $275 for a 4*Please advise. Thank you.
noobtraveler Posted June 7, 2012 Author Report Posted June 7, 2012 Just gave it a go. Unfortunately no success. I started off with CPS zone, and used TS as my first rebid zone as follows:4* CPS 235added TS 240added rebid zone 245added rebid zone 250added rebid zone 255added rebid zone 260added rebid zone 265added rebid zone 270added rebid zone 275I forgot to incorporate the 5* into the game. I think next go around, I'll start with 5* TS, then add 4*, then use CPS as rebid zone, and then the 7 rebid zones. Should I start off at $275 or back lower like $250?Thanks.

noobtraveler Posted June 8, 2012 Author Report Posted June 8, 2012 Still at work, but will try it with your PRICELINE link as soon as I get home. Will keep you posted on results. Thank-you.
noobtraveler Posted June 9, 2012 Author Report Posted June 9, 2012 Gave it a shot, but no cigars. Went to $300 with no wins. Do you think waiting a couple days and repeating the process may yield better results, or do you think prices will not change?I know Sept through Nov is high season in NYC, but seriously, $300 a night and I can't even get a 4*? Sorry, just venting. Feel better now.
AaronJB Posted June 9, 2012 Report Posted June 9, 2012 I'm seeing a 4* on HOTWIRE with fitness, restaurant, business, internet, accessible blind/deaf/path, roll-in shower, in-room accessibility, handicapped parking for $298 in the Times Square zone. However, if you have gone up to $300 in TS and have not been successful, my guess would be that this is is likely a property that's 3.5* on PRICELINE and 4* on HOTWIRE - the Millennium Broadway would be my guess.Prices for these dates are very high, but not the worst I've seen in NYC in October. You could take a few weeks and try up to $300 once or twice a week.Thank you for using the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
thereuare Posted June 9, 2012 Report Posted June 9, 2012 You may also want to consider booking a fully refundable back-up if you continue to bid in case rates continue to rise even further from here. You can use MAPS and HOTELS.com to filter for something closer to Times Square (try searching within 1 mile of Times Square as you can use the landmark instead of a city) and then sort/filter by star rating, price, distance, etc. easily seeing what the best price/star rating combination is that will get you closest to an acceptable location. Although i'd reiterate that i think finding the best deal for these dates will likely involve needing to broaden the zones you're willing to accept. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. noobtraveler Posted June 10, 2012 Author Report Posted June 10, 2012 Thanks for the heads up Aaron. I'll have to see if the wife wants to go up on price or go down on stars. Will keep trying. Thanks thereuare. I just checked out MapsAndHotels. Seems their star rating is even more lax than hotwire. We may well just have to book a fully refundable hotel, as you suggested, and keep bidding. I've suggested increasing our zones to at least include MTE or even UES. However the wife didn't want to risk getting a hotel on 1st Ave or York. We used to live in NYC, and she hated the times when we had to walk 15 min to hit a 456 train. Plus she has her heart set out to see several Broadway shows so she's quite adamant about the TS & CPS area.In any case, thank-you for the help.
thereuare Posted June 11, 2012 Report Posted June 11, 2012 The maps and hotels star ratings come directly from Hotels.com... we're looking to add other suppliers as interest in the site continues to grow.Keep us updated on your progress and let us know if we can be of further help along the way.
