kraximus41 Posted June 6, 2012 Report Posted June 6, 2012 Looking for a bidding strategy for NYC for 6/21 to 6/25 for 3 rooms. I want to do either a 4* for under $180 a night or a 3.5 * under $150, whichever is easier to reach that goal. Let me know if that's too lofty. We want to be on the Southern part of Manhattan. Any help?

kraximus41 Posted June 6, 2012 Author Report Posted June 6, 2012 Using your PRICELINE link, here are the zones we are considering for 4*-#15- Soho Tribeca#3- Chelsea#5- Downtown Financial District#9- Lower East Side#11- Midtown East#12- Midtown WestThe list above is our preference too for where to say.I haven't developed a strategy for 3.5 stars, but I think we would accept any of those same areas. Thanks
thereuare Posted June 6, 2012 Report Posted June 6, 2012 There are no 4* hotels offered in the LES zone so we will not include that in your bidding. When bidding 4* in NYC you have SEVEN re-bid zones. kraximus41 Posted June 8, 2012 Author Report Posted June 8, 2012 No luck up to $180.00 for a 4*. I think we need to go back to the drawing board.I think we would consider a 3* or 3.5* hotel, but I'm not sure how the re-bid zones works with that. Might be more difficult. We would prefer to stay in the same areas listed below if possible. Can you help with a strategy for a 3* and keeping it under $150.00 per night? Thanks
thereuare Posted June 8, 2012 Report Posted June 8, 2012 Note that when bidding 3.5* in the MTE zone some hotels can be up to a 15 minute walk to the subway... is this acceptable?I will also add (just to give you some food for thought)...HOTWIRE has a 4* hotel in the MTC zone that is well reviewed with a 95% user recommendation for $183/nite... a 4* hotel (this may be 3.5* rated on PRICELINE given your previous rejections) Downtown for $155/nite.Any interest in the 4* MTC property OR should we provide a 3.5* PRICELINE bidding strategy, and if the latter, should we include/exclude MTE?Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Let us know the above and we'll advise accordingly. Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
kraximus41 Posted June 8, 2012 Author Report Posted June 8, 2012 Let's leave out MTE for now and lets do a 3.5* strategy. If that fails, we'll start looking at 3*.I talked with our group and $183.00 per night is just a bit too high. We've decided as a group to opt for a cheaper hotel option, since we probably be in the room all that much anyway.
thereuare Posted June 9, 2012 Report Posted June 9, 2012 So to confirm you're now bidding 3.5* in the Soho, Chelsea, DT or MTW zones? At the 3.5* level you have SIX re-bid zones. If you're not familiar with re-bidding please read Priceline Re-Bidding Explained and feel free to ask questions and/or confirm your re-bid zones with the board before proceeding.Select 3.5* Chelsea and DT...Bid $90, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $95, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $100, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $105, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $110, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINESelect 3.5* Soho and MTW...Bid $90, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $95, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $100, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $105, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $110, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINESelect 3.5* Soho and DT...Bid $115, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $120, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $123, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $125, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINESelect 3.5* Chelsea and MTW...Bid $115, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $120, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $123, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $125, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINESelect 3.5* MTW and DT...Bid $128, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $130, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $133, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINESelect 3.5* Soho and Chelsea...Bid $128, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $130, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $133, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINESelect 3.5* MTW and DT and Soho and Chelsea...Bid $135, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $138, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $140, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $143, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $145, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $148, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $150Any questions feel free to ask. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Good luck and let us know how it goes. kraximus41 Posted June 12, 2012 Author Report Posted June 12, 2012 No luck going all the way to $161 in MTW, Chelsea, DT, Soho at 3.5* :(I think we are ready to do 3* bids, especially with being less than two weeks out. Would like to keep it to $160.00 maximum.I see that there is a "Chelsea - Madison Square Garden area hotel" for $150.00 on HOTWIRE (using your link). Amenities include Free Internet, Free Breakfast. I would take this, but we absolutely do not want to stay in MSG area. Any idea what the hotel is? If it is in MSG, then let's proceed with a 3* bid strategy for up to $160.00 for MTW, MTE (assuming close subways), DT, Soho. Thanks

Also, if it is in MSG, then we definitely don't want to do it.
thereuare Posted June 12, 2012 Report Posted June 12, 2012 What is the star rating of the MSG-Chelsea property as i'm not seeing anything with this amenity set offered at any star level in this zone when searching HOTWIRE for your dates.I've also found the Doubletree Chelsea for $183/nite for your dates if this is of any interest. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. kraximus41 Posted June 12, 2012 Author Report Posted June 12, 2012 It was a 3* in MSG/Chelsea area, and it seems that it is no longer available. However, I did find a 3.5* in MTE for $140.00. We need three rooms for four nights. Seem like a pretty good deal. Here are the amenities.Restaurant(s) Business Center High-Speed Internet Access Any idea on which hotel this is?We'll pass on the Double Tree. Thank you though.
AaronJB Posted June 12, 2012 Report Posted June 12, 2012 My guess would be the Helmsley New York.Thank you for using the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
kraximus41 Posted June 12, 2012 Author Report Posted June 12, 2012 The reviews for the Helmsley New York are pretty bad. Just tried to book a 4* in DT-Soho Financial for $155.00 a night, but I got locked out when I tried too book.Let's try out a 3* bidding strategy and see how it goes.
kraximus41 Posted June 12, 2012 Author Report Posted June 12, 2012 There is another 3* hotel listed in Chelsea-MSG for $158.00 now. Hotwire rates seem to be changing fast, so this might not be available by the time someone responds. Again, don't want to be in MSG area, but Chelsea is good. Amenities-Fitness Center Restaurant(s) Business Center High-Speed Internet Access Accessible for the blind Accessible for the deaf Free Internet Accessible path of travel In-room accessibility Accessible bathroom Handicapped parking Roll-in shower Thanks
AaronJB Posted June 12, 2012 Report Posted June 12, 2012 My guess is that this may be the Holiday Inn 6th Avenue or Hilton Garden Inn Chelsea.Thank you for using the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
kraximus41 Posted June 13, 2012 Author Report Posted June 13, 2012 Using your PRICELINE link, I was able to secure the Holiday Inn NYC- 6th Avenue in Chelsea for $155.00 a night for four nights. This was about $8.00 cheaper than the Hotwire one in Chelsea-MSG if it was in fact the Holiday Inn.I'm pretty pleased with the results, but I should start earlier next time! Thanks for all the help guys.
